Okay, so it's Dominion Day, which means, I suppose, it's time for the obligatory Jingoist, "I love Canada post." Fuck that. This country sucks. Even worse, this province (Ontario) sucks. "Happy Dominion Day?" On the day that lying crapweasel McGuinty piles another thousand bucks onto my tax bill? No, I don't think so.

Anyhoo, before getting to what I actually want to write about, to all you people calling Canada "The greatest country in the world," and I do hear that several times a year, I say to you all a hearty FUCK OFF.

Canada may once have been great. Canada certainly once had great potential. Then Canada had the late, unlamented and never to be sufficiently cursed Pierre fucking Eliot fucking Trudeau. Whatever greatness we might have had, whatever greatness we might have achieved, was promptly flushed straight down the shitter. Take any measure of greatness you care to name, and Canada AIN'T number one.

Fuck, great countries do not rename their national holidays. Independence day, unchanged in 234 years, Bastille Day, unchanged in 221 years. Dominion Day, renamed illegally in 1982 under the auspices of, you guessed it, the late, unlamented and never to be sufficiently cursed Pierre fucking Eliot fucking Trudeau.

Great countries do not willy nilly replace their flags with a trademark created in the image of the political party in power (hint, the fucker is red, and the fucking Liberals think of themselves as Canada's "natural governing party"). Hell, great countries don't have "natural governing parties," banana republics do. And great countries do not consider themselves great because of socialist bullshit passed by the likes of PET's rancid piece of shit predecessor, Lester Pearson. You know, the guy who, in addition to foisting that stupid fucking "flag" on us, gave us Canada Health care, nationalized student loans and the Canada Pension Plan. In his defense, he was aided and abetted by the foul Commie pusbag known as Tommy Douglas. So, you know, it's not just the LUANTBSCPFEFT Liberals who are to blame for Canada's fall from near/potentially great to Banana republic. There were other Liberal, the NDP, and the stupid fucks who voted for them.

Why, just last week we hosted the G7 and G20 conferences. I saw surveys about how admired we are by various third world pissholes. Great countries are not admired. They are feared. They are envied. To be a nation "admired" is to be a second rater, a once was, a never was, or a never could have been.

Oh, yes, Canadians are so polite. And they breed such fine hockey players. And they lose with such grace. And they have no ability whatsoever to project power, so they can't push back when we fuck with them. I do admire them so. Pussies.

Seems during the G20 our illustrious "conservative" Prime Minister saw fit to piss a billion dollars away on security. Much of that went to the Toronto gun totin' bureaucrat force, for extra special, super duper ninja equipment. Which they put to good use as they stood around while police cars burned. Nice work officers, sorry you forgot the marshmallows and wieners.

That's okay, though, at least they made up for letting violent thugs destroy property, both private and public, while publicly humiliating them (the cops) by harassing middle aged people with video cameras. And wearing the dreaded black t-shirt, blocks away from the protests. That third link certainly provides an interesting set of comments. "Oh, jeez Mike, if you'd only bent over and let them anally do you, then they wouldn't have been at all rude. And it's all your own fault anyway, because you were there, wearing a black t shirt."

I'm going to swing the clue bat here, people. THE FUCKING POLICE ARE FUCKING PUBLIC SERVANTS. Anything else, ANYTHING else, is a violation of your natural rights. Mike Brock wasn't breaking the law, and they don't get to arrest you, they don't get to detain you, they don't get to be fucking rude to you, if you're not breaking the law.

I know, I know, it's a tough job, the Black Bloc was out, they only want to get home safe...blah, blah, blah. Don't like the job? Don't take it. Or quit. I'll say it again, police are public servants. They work for us, they don't rule us. So I'll say it again. Don't like the job? Tough shit, no one drafted you. You want to swagger around packing heat? Well, there's a downside. Don't like the downside? Quit so we can hire someone who isn't a flaming asshole.

Ownership of your body. Ownership of your time, the fruits of your labours, the right to defend same, by whatever means, and with whatever violence necessary. Speech, conscience, worship, assembly. These are rights, but without property rights (the first three listed), they are vapour. We. Don't. Have. Property. Rights. Or, rather, we (naturally) have property rights, but our constitution and government are set up to abrogate and violate those rights in minute detail.

Hmm, I was intending this to be a missive on trust in society, and I was going to link it to the G20, and maybe tie in Caledonia, and the massive suckitude of Canada due to the breakdown of trust in society. And how the break down in trust leads to a bunker mentality with the police leading to bullshit as mentioned above. I also had some thoughts on law and order, and it's erosion in the breakdown of the trust society, and how the fucking leftoids have wreaked havoc on it with the over legislated, over regulated state, but I'm out of steam.

Hockey Wrapup

Okay, time to clear the decks a bit. Let's start with hockey.

Hoo boy did I miss the boat on the Loaf's season. I seem to recall opining that they'd be in tough to make the playoffs, but there was no particular reason they couldn't do it. Hmm, 29th place in a 30 team league. Yeah, that crow I had for dinner in March was simply delicious.

Okay, I was way wrong on the result, but I stand by my analysis. There was no reason that the Leafs, as they were constituted in the pre season, shouldn't have been at least contending for a playoff spot, leastwise on paper. There was something poisonous in that dressing room. Dunno what it was, but, considering the talent that was there, and the additions Burke made, they really ought not to have been a 29th place team. I guess that's why we have the play games, to determine such things.

Oh, and to all the people castigating Burke for selling the farm for Phil Kessel. His analysis was probably not that different from mine. The team should not have placed 29th, so he should not have been giving up a franchise player in the draft. So, when he says, he'd do the trade over again he's not being an idiot, he's simply admitting that with the information he had at the time, it was a decent trade. Unless, of course, he's saying that he considers Kessel to be a franchise player, in which case he really is a fucking idiot.

Onward.

So, the Blackhawks have ended their 49 year cup drought, leaving the Leafs as the team with the longest running drought. Think they'll win it before 2016? Or are they going to enter Rangers territory for time between cups. If I were a betting man, I'd say, watch out Rangers, your 54 year record of futility is officially under challenge.

Anyway, on to the cup. A friend lives in very much not a hockey hotbed, and has a friend who's a Flyers fan. I wrote to him that, while knowing a Flyers fan would suck, hey, look on the bright side, they lost.

Yes, Mary Ann "the passenger" Hossa finally found a team with the talent and drive to carry his useless, moody, over paid, talented yet under performing, eye-hacking ass to a Stanley Cup parade. Only took 4 teams and 3 finals to do it. An what a tribute it is to Toews. Crosby couldn't get Hossa a cup. The freaking Stockholm Red Wings couldn't get him a cup, but Toews, Kane, et all could.

Y'know, ol' fulminandrew must confess, it got really fucking tiring hearing the commentary during these playoffs. Hossa this, Hossa that and Hossa the other. He must have been really valuable, right? Like the fucking MVP, right? No, wait, that was Toews. So he must have won the playoff scoring race then. No, that was Briere (followed by Toews, who saw the best defense and checkers every shift). Okay, then, he must have scored the cup winner, at least. No, that was Kane. Hmm, tell me again why Mr. October is worth 50 million dollars? Oh, got it, the other team is afraid for their vision.

And speaking of obnoxious fans. Yes, Flyers fans are assholes, but they don't have a patch on Montreal fans. Would I like to see the cup come back to Canada? Hell yeah. Would I cheer for that city to be Montreal? Hell no, and not because I'm a Leafs fan. Because I can't fucking stand Montreal fans. Consider the team without Patrick Roy in 86 and 93. Do they win the cup? 86 possibly, but unlikely, 93, not only no, but HELL NO. So, really, since the team fired Bowman back in, what, 1980, it's been as poorly run a piece of shit as the Leafs. Just try to get a Montreal fan to admit it.

Yeah, but they had Roy in 86 and 93, and won the cup. Won the cup, yes, but not because of the brilliance with which the team was run. Hell, look at this year's team. Was that a final 4 team? Don't think so, that was a final 4 goaltending performance. But that's okay, Montreal, you keep signing 2nd line players for 1st line money, and while you're at it, sign Halak to a monster deal. Maybe he is the next Roy/Brodeur. And maybe he will single handedly win you another cup.

Read in the Sun today that now is Gary the weasel's chance to do hockey some good. Ride the momentum of the highest rated final in years to expand hockey. Quick, seize the opportunity to get franchises in Winnipeg, Quebec and Southern Ontario.

Dude, what the fuck are you smoking? Bettman is going to ride his "hockey in the sun belt" hobby horse until either (1) the governors come to their senses and fire the schmuck, or (2) the league goes bankrupt. Seriously, in the 90's the man couldn't get hockey out of Canada fast enough, and still wants to move to Kansas and Vegas. NHL hockey back to Canada? Bettman ain't gonna do it. This would be the man who talked the league into buying the Coyotes to keep them in the desert (where they lost another 20 mil this year). Back to the 'Peg? Please.

5 months?

Holy crap, I haven't wandered by here in almost 5 months. I keep composing posts in my mind, but then never seem to get around to typing them out. In my defense, it's been a busy start to 2010...

Mrs. Fulminandrew delivered us a new boy a couple of months ago. He came in reasonably big, 8 lbs 3 oz, but was almost 5 weeks early. Unfortunately that came with lung/breathing issues that our local, underfunded (thanks a whole lot, McScumbag, you piece of shit) hospital is unable to deal with, so, we had a week at a real hospital in Toronto. In the end everything turned out fine, he came home, is eating and growing like a weed.

At the same time, work got nuts. My job requirements changed, and I had to go through a pile of retraining. Fortunately, I'm able to do it all by remote, but with the relocation to Toronto for a week, followed by taking care of Mummy with a hole in her tummy and newborn, and jealous 2 year old, my time was stretched thin.

Then the real work pile hit. Long days at the job site, followed by more retraining/qualifying at home. Along with all the life issues. Heh, heh, it's a damned good thing I'm already pretty much certifiable, or April through now would have driven me nuts. The shit continues, but is finally coming under control.

Enough of my tale of woe. On to important stuff...hot Asian women in bikinis...here's the marvelously endowed Ourei Harada.

Well, that was a while, wasn't it? I haven't posted anything since early December. No reason for it, the muse simply failed to strike. Okay, the muse is back, inspired by the Dem's loss in the Massachusetts special election.

Before I get to my comments, first, let's set the stage. Ol' Swimmer Ted, finally receiving a little of the karmic redress he's so dearly deserved, for so many years, contracts brain cancer. I read somewhere, and I hope it's true, that the type he had was particularly painful. It cannot undo anything the murderous, treasonous swine did in his long and infamous senate career, but it puts a little into the payback column. I just wish I could believe, as Emperor Misha does, that there is a Hell, a place of fire and brimstone, where the Drunken Lifeguard will spend eternity roasting on a spit...where the spit is "Satan's barbed cock," and the lecherous loser is rotating on it about his rectal passage. Unfortunately, I can take no solace in that. Ahh, well, as I say, at least he died in pain.

In addition, he died leaving one of his great Life's Projects incomplete. There they were, poised to pass the health care waiting list act, and Buick's worst spokesman up and dies. Now they have to fill his seat. Fortunately, Massachusetts law requires that (a) an empty federal senate seat be filled by Gubernatorial appointment, and (b) Mass has a Democrat governor.

Oh, wait, no, (a) is no longer the case. In 2004, when it looked like Johnny Treason was going to unseat Bumbletongue Bush for the presidency, the Mass legislature changed the rules. See, they had a RINO governor at the time, and a thin senate majority. If Romney had the power to appoint the new senator, he might appoint a Republican, thinning (or erasing, I forget) the Dem majority. Guess who urged the legislature to make the change. That's right, Treason Ted himself.

Fast forward; Chappaquiddick Ted is dying, and the Dems have a 60 seat supermajority. So old "I never drink my scotch straight up, I always mix it...with vodka" suggests the state house change the rule back. The optics of this are terrible, and hell, it's Mass, which hasn't elected a Repub to national office since the Medieval Warming Period, so, no change, and they have a special election.

The candidate for the Dems, Martha Coakley, is a disaster. And should probably be in prison for prosecutorial misconduct. But, she has a "D" after her name, and she does have statewide recognition, having been elected to statewide office. The Repub's candidate, Scott Brown hasn't these advantages. He does however, come with his own advantages, namely, Martha Coakley and pResident Uh-bama.

Long story short, for the first time since dinosaurs walked the earth, Massachusetts elected a Repub. Result, the Dem supermajority is gone, and Kennedy's pet project is in serious shit, in fact, probably toast.

Yes, dear reader, the Maple Pucks managed to squeeze out a win against the Islanders. Woo hoo, they've managed to scrape and claw their way to within one point of 28th place. Yes, after their vaunted points in, what, 8 of the last 10 games they've moved up from a tenuous hold on 29th to having an absolute LOCK on 29th place. Yay.

One point to a three way tie for 26th, 2 points to a 5 way tie for 21st and, god help me, only 5 points out of a playoff spot. Seriously? 3 more wins and they could (theoretically, if not practically) be sitting in a playoff position. Be still my heart.

But, on the off chance a Leaf fan is reading this, let's keep it real. I wrote that they'd have a decent shot at the playoffs this year, although would not be a shoo in, and an early exit. Hey, all I want is for Boston's first round "Kessel" pick not be in the top 5. It's not that I have anything in particular against Boston, it's not even that I have anything in particular against Boston fans. Hell, it's not that I have anything in particular against the die hard Maple Puck heads (dumb though they are). It's just that I can't stand the die hard Leaf haters. I. Just. Can't. Fucking. Stand. Them.

Look, assholes, we all know the Leafs suck. We all know the organization will turn a profit no matter what. And we all know the reasons for it (which I will not go into here). We also know you hate the Leafs, and no, excepting the real morons, we are not planning the parade route. So shut the fuck up already. How on earth did I miss it. I posted a bunch of the usual random nonsense yesterday, and yet managed to miss Gamil Garbi Memorial Day. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's not what the hed says, it says "Marc Lepine" Memorial Day. That's only because the M(uslim) S(ucking) M(edia) has been whitewashing mooselimb violence a lot longer than since 9-11. He was born Gamil Garbi and self identified as a Muslim, and I'm damned if I'm going to fall into the femifister narrative and call him Lepine.

Reading Cathy Schaidle I found out that, a mere 20 years later, 7 years after Mark Steyn first noted it, the M(oronically) S(tupid) M(edia) has dipped its big toe in the pool, noting that Garbi was raised by a Muslim. Not, mind you, as Steyn puts it a bit more accurately:

What are they? Let's hearken back to here, and start with, we're a nation of pussies. Garbi walked in the door and ordered the men out. Out they went, and the shooting began. Anyone go back? Come on, you all know the story, it's told about 68 billion times every "never hear the end of it month" (thank you for that one Cathy Schaidle, I bloody love it); no one went back, the "rampage" ended when Garbi killed himself.

So, we're a nation of pussies. A fundamental precept of our society used to be "women and children first." Thanks to the late, unlamented and never to be sufficiently cursed Pierre Fucking Eliot Fucking Trudeau (I don't really know how much can truly be laid at his feet, I just like typing the phrase, and what the hell, the arrogant prick was responsible for so much of the ruination of this country that it just seems appropriate), and 40 years of total state mandated pussification, the women got thrown under the bus. Any society which does not seek to protect the women and children at the expense of the men is doomed. So, how's that for an implication of Gamil Garbi Memorial Day? It exposes a major fault which dooms us.

What else? Who got killed? The women. Why? Because the men were pussies. Why? Because we've pussified our society. At whose behest? The women. Holy "be careful what you wish for, Feminazis, you might just get it." The annoying "all men are rapists" crowd has pushed for the castration of the western male for my entire lifetime. Well, bitches, you got it. How do you like the taste? Ooooh, if I actually had readers, I'd probably catch me some shit for that one.

Let's look at that some more. Garbi's complaint was that the feminists were keeping him down.
Used to was that engineering was a man's profession. Used to was that nursing was a woman's profession. The "sex barrier" in one of these has suffered a full frontal assault from the forces of stupidity, going back to before I went to university. Hmmm, I wonder if there was actual merit in his claim that the feminists were keeping him down. Nah, the fact that he was dumber than Obama was what was keeping him down, but having been raised as he was, and seeing that women get preferential admissions to university, and especially engineering (which he wanted to attend) gave him his battle cry.

Lesson to be learned? None. Sexist admissions policies are unfair, unjust and an abrogation of the natural rights of man, but they don't justify mass murder, and we shouldn't be taking Garbi's excuse at face value anyway. The man was a fucking psycho, raised to hate women, and a fucking 'tard to boot. There's your lesson, psychos are psychos.

And that means you, too, fisters. His "the feminists are keeping me down" rhetoric is not a club you can use to beat all men. Which is actually a good lesson to take from this, to wit, don't blame classes of people for the acts of individuals. Of course, the fister 'tards aren't going to learn that particular lesson. They'd have to have actual brain cells for that.

So, why use this for a "Why Canada Sucks" post? What was the response to Garbi's rampage? Well, we lower the flags to half mast in his honour. We've implemented more male pussification and done so more aggressively. We've got more gun control (and every day I seem to read about another shooting in Toronto. How's that 2 billion dollar gun registry working out for ya?). And we've got ever more endless rhetoric about how awful men are.

Yes, because the son of a woman hatin' wife beater turned out to be a woman hater, I must self-flaggelate every Dec. 6 to purge the original sin of having a penis. Guess what, I ain't gonna. Real men don't beat women, and I'm not going to apologize for having testicles just because someone with testicles did something bad. Instead, I'm going to insist, starting on this 20th anniversary, that the Feminazi fister retards start apologizing for the castration of the Canadian male, and begging forgiveness for being the root cause of the Ecole Polytechnique massacre.

Well, the fulminatin' one has been on hiatus for a bit. No particular reason for it, and certainly no lack of material or inspiration. I've just been too bloody lazy to log on and post something. So, let's take a shotgun approach to the last couple of weeks.

Family...You might think that having 5 couples, with 8 children under six, in our small abode for 5 hours would be rough on a man whose sufferance of fools is perhaps a touch lacking. Yes, you might think that, but last week, under those conditions, I had a blast. Damn, but I love kids. Whether they're little wiggly blobs whose eyes barely focus, or six year olds kicking my ass at Wii golf, if they've got good parents (and all the kids in question do) they are a joy.

Okay, I've got the sappy shit out of the way now.

So, in order to prepare for the above mentioned gathering, Mrs. Fulminandrew and I had to clean up the pigsty in which we live. It's amazing how quickly one 2 year old can turn an otherwise tidy abode into a disaster area, but The Boy manages. And to keep his curious little paws off of things, stuff just gets shoved into places he can't access, like my study. 8 bleeding hours or more to clean it out enough for company. And that's aside from the rest of the joint. Part of the reason for the hiatus was simply tidying up.

The Mrs. asked me, "Should we entertain more, or not at all?" Now, being the antisocial bastard you may have figgered me to be, and considering the work necessary to get the place ready for company, you might expect my answer was "Not at all." Quite the contrary. I'm not really antisocial, I'm anti-idiot. My wife has excellent taste in friends (her taste in sisters, and husbands, might be a bit suspect), not a jackass among them, so I had a grand time. So, entertain more, to force us to (a) keep the place tidier and (b) throw out shit that dearly needs throwing out.

Okay, enough with the personal...Hockey.

Well, Leafs nation, the suckage quotient of the boys in blue and white is slightly less these days. Yes, they got creamed by Boston last night, but Boston is a real team, not an AHL team with delusions. And, yes, they got embarassed by Buffalo, but I believe it's in the Maple Leafs charter that they have to suck against the Sabres. Dunno why, but there you go. Outside of that, they've managed to get within 7 (seven!!!) points of a playoff spot. They even "won" a shootout (and isn't that a dumb fucking way to end a team game?) for a change. They'll still be in tough to make the playoffs, but I posted on that earlier. Anyway, they've been generally more entertaining (and in a positive way).

Now on to the meaty stuff...Boy are Canadians a pack of dumb fucks.

So, Dalton McFerretFace is out to jack up our taxes to the tune of better than $1000 per family, per year. He's gonna do this while sticking his greasy, corrupt fingers in his ears shouting "Lalalalala I can't hear anybody objecting to the HST." He's gonna do this while offering a one time bribe of $1000 dollars of our own money to swallow it. And he's gonna do this all the while telling us how increasing taxes is going to help us economically. I know the guy's a complete fucktard, but, does everyone else have to be?

Let us think about this. First, everything that has GST will now have PST. That's where the extra $1000 per comes in. That's money out of your pocket and into the coffers at Queen's park. You know, the place that just magically made 25 BILLION dollars disappear. While finding 2.5 billion dollars to gift to the teacher's unions (more on that later). Now, money out of your pocket to be ~~invested~~ pissed away by the govt equals slower economic growth. Why? Because govt is incompetent, and Liberal government is fucking incompetent.

Oh, and Mr. Harper, I know you've been on about harmonizing the sales taxes since before you were elected. And I know, in theory, it's actually a good idea. But the timing here sucks, and the GST is too broadly based. If we add 8% to everything not covered by the GST, the Ontario economy is going straight down the shitter. And, I know you're from west (at least of late) but Ontario is still the 800 pound gorilla in the Canadian economy. Narrow the base of the GST (bad), or tell that shit for brains in Queen's Park to lower the provincial chunk to 6 - 7% (g00d).

Now, let us throw into the mix the national campaign to stop the new TV tax of "up to $10 a month." Ooh, yeah, let's fight a $100 tax, while meekly bending over to take a $1000 tax, good and hard. Especially a $100 tax that you don't have to pay. I won't be paying it. Guess why not. That's right, I don't have fucking cable. You think I want to drop 40, 50 bucks a month or more on the brain rotting shite on TV? Anyone who doesn't want to pay the tax, cancel your cable, or satellite. Presto, no tax. Now, how are you going to do this with McShithead's HST? (crickets chirp)

Wake the fuck up, people, TV is not a necessity. Heating oil and electricity are.

Health care.

So, the cocksmoker that McFuck-off-and-die-Cambridge-residents sent to fuck up their hospital even more has determined that the way to balance the %28 under funded budget is to...cut services. Good thing we have Liberals in charge of our health care, 'cause, you know, those damned conservatives cut health care to the bone and the Liberals, well, they would never make health care cuts, right? (there go those fucking crickets again)

If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about" (I quote from memory, but it's close).

Now, I don't, generally, disagree too vehemently with Jay Currie. Hell, I wouldn't have put him in my blogroll if I thought he were an idiot, but I gotta take issue here.

Once upon a time Currie was, rightly, castigating the Harper "Conservatives" for their Liberal ways and opined that, since the "conservatives" were behaving like Liberals, if he had to take stuffy, pompous Harper, or his Liberal counterparts, he'd take the Ignatieff Liberals. At least, he reasoned, Ignatieff had style.

Yes, Mr. Currie, it turns out that Ignatieff does have style. I mean, gawky, pompous, whiny, deer-in-the-headlights, political naif is a style. I'm just thinking that it's really not what you meant when you suggested that he has style.

What prompted this little rant? This week's second reading of the bill to repeal the gun registry. Saw Mr. Ignatieff on the news whining about the evil conservatives politicizing the gun registry.

Guess what, moron, it was your incompetent, corrupt Cretinite predecessors who wrote the law in the first place. That would be the act that brought it into the political sphere, dare I say, politicizing it.

Get this through your thick, tourist head Mr. Ignatieff, between 1 and 2 BILLION dollars have been wasted getting farmers to register their gopher guns. Also, see if you can drive this through your thick skull, criminals break the law, it's the unique property that makes them criminals (use a pound sledge hammer if you think it will help). I'm thinking that maybe, just maybe, the street gangs and biker gangs who account for most of the gun crime (pre - you didn't register your squirrel rifle, off to jail with you farmer brown) aren't going to register their guns.

Well the stinking Leafs finally decided to win a winnable game. They managed to, barely, put down the slumping Hurricanes.

Of course, they spotted them a two goal lead, and didn't manage to seal the deal until 11:36 of the third, and they tried to piss it away with a penalty in the last minute, but, hey, they did post a win. In regulation. And now they OWN 29th spot.

Next up, the Stockholm Dirty Wings. Yeah, they'll lose this one, big.

God these guys suck. Not looking forward to my plate of crow come April.

Even though it's not properly tested. Even though it's been rushed to market. Even though the doctors' stories change on a daily basis. Yup, it's essential that we get the fucking shot.

Well, now that McBonehead has weighed in, the decision is made. No shot for the fulminatin' one. If he wants me to get it that much, it's gotta be a bad thing. That particular blind squirrel has already found his nut for the decade.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those "vaccinations are the debbil" fruitcakes. Mrs. Fulminandrew has friends who express profound regret that they got their first child all the standard childhood vaccinations. Yes, it's a crying shame that the little nipper won't die of whooping cough, or be crippled by polio, or go sterile from late contracted mumps. Mrs. F was wondering if we should get the boy his vaccinations. As she stays home with the little devil, she makes most of the decisions regarding his upbringing. BUT. But the fulminatin' one put his size 11 down there, and the little booger got his shots.

Having established my not-a-distilled-water-in-place-of-actual-medicine takin' pinhead, I gotta say, I had serious reservations about the Mexican flu shot. As noted above, too rushed, untested, changing stories, not to mention single source. So, I must now do something I thought I'd never, ever do. I must give sincere thanks to Dalton "dumber than dishwater" McGuinty for sealing the deal. Now I know the Mexican flu shot is worse than useless, and won't bother to get it.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, calling this the "McGuinty is a Pinhead Edition" of Heavy Metal Monday really doesn't narrow down the possible topics a whole helluva lot, does it?

Let's narrow it down. The two greatest spending priorities of the provincial governments are (1) health care and (2) education. In Ontario they eat up about 3/4 of the provincial budget (1/2 for health and 1/4 for education), and the functional retard we have "running" the show in Queen's Park is fucking up both of them at this very minute.

How? I'd say. "Let me count the ways," but I have two specific examples in mind. Universal, all day babysitting for 4 and 5 year olds. Oops, I mean kindergarten. And the hatchet job the fucker is doing on the folks in Cambridge.

I gave props to Premier Ferret Face for figuring out that all boys education is an idea whose time has come. Now it's back to the brickbat.

Universal, all day kindergarten for 4 and 5 year olds, Dalton? To the (official) tune of 1.5 billion dollars per year. When, you cock smoking prick, your govt is running a 25 billion dollar deficit?

Some questions, you weasel faced street pizza: Do you really think I'm stupid enough to believe any govt's spending projections, much less a socialist piece of crap govt? Or do you just figure you need the anencephalic vote?

Do you really believe there is any educational and economic benefit to it? Liberals Really Are Lying Sacks of S**t

It was a close call for the fulminatin' one today. I was on my way home from meeting with a customer and, as I am wont to do, I turned on my local talk station. The local talker had on one of Premier McDickhead's ministers (Colleges and Technology or some such), and the "honourable minister fired off one of the standard Liberal tropes; that the Harris Tories "slashed" health care spending. The red curtain of blood descended, and I had to concentrate hard not to run into a ditch at 120 km/h.

At any rate, in reply I say, "Fuck off, fuckwit."

Now, as I wrote to the talker, if words are to have meanings, they have to mean the same thing for everyone, leastwise if there is to be communication. In budgetary context, "cutting" is reducing spending. "Slashing" is massively reducing spending. To repeat myself, the Harris Tories increased health care spending every single year. No cutting, no slashing.

This leaves us a dichotomy. The "honourable" member either knows this, or he does not. If he knows it, he is just another lying sack of liberal shit. If he doesn't know it, he is too stupid or ill informed to be janitor in charge of replacing the urinal mints at Queen's Park, much less a minister for higher education and technology. You can probably guess which one I'm betting on.

Of course, to be charitable, he could be all of the above; stupid, ill informed, and a liar. Just not about this topic, not simultaneously.

You know what pissed me off the most, though? It wasn't that yet another McLimdick Minister lied about something. That's about as common as ice at the south pole. It wasn't the fact that the host let him get away with it. I'll be charitable and assume he simply doesn't know it to be a falsehood. It was the fact that Elizabeth Witmer, Harris' Minister of fucking Health from 1997 to 2001, was the next guest.

You can't tell me that the woman who presided over the annual budget increases didn't know that the budget, well, increased. Why the FUCK didn't she call the son of a bitch on the lie? I don't give a good fucking goddamn about collegiality, the man told a base lie about her ministry, and she let it go.

And so it enters deeper into the public consciousness, that the Harris Tories cut health care spending when they did no such fucking thing. Christ, Wikipedia flatly states that Witmer "presided over a controversial restructuring process which included a number of government cutbacks."

NO, SHE FUCKING DIDN'T, READ THE FUCKING BUDGET, OR LOOK AT THE FUCKING CHART. Increased budgets, EVERY FUCKING YEAR.

You know what else chafes my buns? Here we are, 6 fucking years after the lying pricks got elected, and it's still Liberal government policy to blame Harris. Heavy Metal Monday, Maple Leafs Finally Win One Edition

Well, the tag is gonna have to be Maple Leafs suck because, well, they do. But at least they finally won a game.

Actually, I watched the third period of Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday and a few thoughts struck me.

First, the Leafs, although they suck, and can't score a goal to ~~save their lives~~ win a game, at least seemed interested in beating Vancouver. Incapable, as it happens, but at least interested.

Second, amongst my old fogies team, and my old guys shinny groups, the consensus seems to be that one of the reasons the Leafs are going nowhere is that Wilson refuses to name a captain. Yeah, yeah, yeah, not enough talent, no leaders, blah, blah, blah. First off, talent schmalent, where is it written that your best player needs must be the captain? How many times has a remarkable talent been given the "C," only to crash and burn (Vincent LeCavalier anyone)? And no leaders? Well, give someone the "C," and he either grows into it, or you give it to someone else. Won't necessarily ruin him (Vincent LeCavalier anyone) and it will address an aching need.

Anyway, Thursday I got to thinking that maybe Ian White is that guy. He's popular in the dressing room (nominated for the Masterton trophy for perserverance and dedication to hockey), done everything the team asked of him, including sucking up 11 games in the press box whilst "better" prospects got their look, then played back into the lineup as a winger, and has emerged second to Kaberle in ice time, all the while being a plus on this team of minuses.

So, Ronnie boy, howzabout it, Ian White for captain?

Third, whilst watching the game, streamed over cbc.ca, I note that the CBC has upped its streaming bandwidth. Good. I really don't want to pay for cable to watch these palookas.

Fourth, it would surely suck to be a non-French speaking Montreal fan. After the Leafs' game, the broadcast switched over to the Montreal game, and who was doing the play by play? Bob "adenoids," "call the score and the time, not the play," "senile, yet stupid," "god why won't they retire this guy," "somewhere there's a village missing an idiot" Cole. That's how low you rate, Anglo Montreal fans. Bob Cole is too useless for the LEAFS, so the CB frickin' C sticks you with him. To quote that great moral philosopher, Nelson Muntz, "Hah, hah."

Fifth, I have no idea, thematically, what to use for this belated Heavy Metal Monday.

2 Seconds Left and the Farking Senators Tie the Game

Okay, so Thursday is old guy hockey night, and the fulminatin' one was off to the rink. We won, and a few of us went to Boston Pizza to celebrate. They had the Ottawa - Nashville game on the tube. Okay, I can watch this. Maybe Ottawa will lose, and god will smile.

I look up, and Ottawa scored to make it 3 - 1. Okay, two goal lead, Dirty Dan and the losers from the capital are down.

I look up again, and they're changing stations. Bastards, there's very little I enjoy more than seeing a player I loathe on the losing end of a game.

I look up again, and the game's back, and it's 4 - 3 Nashville. Durn, but the clock is running down, Ottawa still looks good for a loss.

Oh, shit, they've tied it. That sucks. But wait, Nashville scores with under a minute to go. Just play the last minute safe.

No, you stupid fucking goalie, don't pass the puck to fucking Alfredson. I can't stand the dirty, smarmy, selfish little prick, but he is a good hockey player, and can pass the puck if the notion enters his pointy little head. Aaaarrrggghhh, 2 seconds left and Ottawa ties it.

Okay, okay, so Nashville scored in overtime to win, Ottawa still got a point out of it. You know, when Ottawa loses, god smiles. When they win, he kills a little kitten. I don't know about overtime losses, but I'm thinking at the least, that baby kitteh was given an unnecessary bath.

Broken Clock Theory Proven, McGuinty Gets One Right

Okay, I've been known to be a little harsh on the ferret-faced crapweasel we have for a Premier, but I'm a fair minded kind of guy. After all I'm not a conservative partisan, hell I'm not even a conservative, nor am I really anti-Liberal. Okay, I lied there, I really am anti-Liberal, but that's not because I'm a conservative, it's because I'm anti-asshole, and the left side of the political spectrum is a veritable magnet for bungholes in human form.

Having said that, it's time to give props to Premier McShithead. Yes, I said it, Dalton McNumbnuts actually got one right, proving again that even a blind squirrel occasionally finds a nut, and even a blind, retarded, spineless, corrupt, ferret-faced crapweasel can discover reality if it smacks him hard enough on the nose.

What am I talking about? This. McDickead actually came out in favour of a boys only school. It only took 30 years of trying to turn them into little girls, doping them up if they couldn't pay attention, and destroying their educational prospects and futures, for the geniuses in charge of the education system to notice that girls are doing better, and doing so at the expense of boys.

Did I say the expense of boys? Yes I did. From 1979 to 2001, women went from 40% to 56% of undergraduates. By 2005, 58% of graduate students were women, and over 60% of med school students are women.

Coincidence? Well, maybe. Maybe changing the curriculum to girl friendly had no effect at all. Maybe all that effort to make it easier for girls to pursue higher education just helped them, without hindering the boys at all. Maybe. Ahhh, who am I fucking kidding. There has been a dirty little war on boys for decades. The 3rd wave feminists hate us, and they've been actively trying to destroy us.

Don't believe me? How many women engineering students are there? Not terribly many, might be as high as 25%. How many men nursing students are there? Why Canada Sucks, Part VI, We're All Fascists Now

God DAMN I hate this fucking country. This is going to be a hard post to write, because there is just too much fucking material to sort through. I'll try not to get too excessive with it, though.

First, a matter of definitions. Fascism is a slippery word, so much so that, in the introduction to his book Liberal Fascism, Jonah Goldberg spills a fair bit of ink in attempting to pin down a definition of fascism, because the main problem is that there really isn't one. He eventually comes to a broad definition, which I can't reproduce, as I borrowed it from the library when I was unemployed and broke. A good working definition would be "Whatever Liberals hate," but that's of little use.

Instead let us turn to dictionary.reference.com, which gives the following:

a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism

Aha, that's how we define those evil, right wing, fascist bastards. Nazzo fast, Guido, let's parse this. Leave aside the absolute dictator, and see if there's anything in there that might seem a bit, I don't know, left wing. You know, like regimenting (i.e. regulating) all industry, commerce, etc., suppressing opposition criticism ("Human Rights" Commissions), aggressive nationalism (Liberal MP Carolyn "Americans, I hate those bastards" Parrish) and racism (Bobo the Clown, Bob "White men need not apply" Rae).

Lest you think I'm picking solely on our main source of fascists, the Liberals, how about Prime Minister Ringo Starr and the proposed changes to RIDE programs. At least right now they have to have an officer sniff your breath before they violate your rights. The new proposal is just to randomly pull people over to butt rape their rights. Think that's not fascist?

And why do I entitle this post "We're All Fascists Now?" Well, remember when the province tried to make bike helmets mandatory for everyone? It was probably Bobo the Clown, but I don't really remember, and whoever it was, isn't the point. Now McShithead wants to make ski helments mandatory. Hey, Dalton, fuck off. It's my fucking head, and I'll do with it as I please, you fascist fuck. But I digress.

When I first heard the story, it was one of the local talkers, who asked his listeners to call or write in with their opinions. Not one, NOT A FUCKING ONE, opined that it's none of the provinces fucking business to regulate ski helmet use. "...regimenting all business, commerce, etc..."

Hey, Ontario, if you want to wear a ski helmet, WEAR A FUCKING SKI HELMET. You can do this without there being a law to make you, you know. You stupid fascist fuckers.

Smoking laws. Seatbelt laws. Business regulations. Banking regulations. Your fireplace. Your toilet. There is nothing, NOTHING in your life that these pricks don't want control over. And they'll get it. Do you know why they'll get it? First, because a Canadian first minister with a majority government is the closest thing to an absolute dictator in the developed world, second, they frame as much as possible as a health care issure and third, we're a nation of pussies, too afraid to stand up for our rights.

Smoking regulations? Health care. Cook up some bullshit study about second hand smoke and you can regulate it to death.

Seatbelts? Helmets? Health care. If you get hurt, it's on the public dime, so the govt has a financial responsibility to fuck your rights.

Salt, fat, meat, and anything else that tastes good? Heart disease, diabetes and colon cancer.

Explain this to the average Canadian (and use small words so there's a chance the moron will get it), and see if he manages to draw the obvious conclusion. If you want to live free. Either leave Canada, or end the health care monopoly. That won't deal with the busy body assholes who just can't stand to see someone having fun, but it will yank the pins out from under the "Well, the govt is paying for your health care, so they have the right to tell you how to live" argument.

Of course, even if you convince the average Canadian pussy that freedom from govt health care is a good thing, he'll never actually voice the thought out loud, for fear of sounding unCanadian. There's nothing worse than be outed as being in favour of "Two Tier, American Style Health Care." Hell, I think the gutless wimps in this country think that if you express that opinion, they'll strip you of your citizenship or, worse yet, ban you from Tim Horton's for life.

Second, criminal charges? Don't think so. Stupidity is its own reward. Simply charge them for the costs of the search; personnel charges, equipment charges, fuel, etc. Then double or triple it for the nuisance factor. Then make sure they're civilly liable for any harm to anyone who needed the services, but couldn't get them as they were busy off on a wild goose chase. Then parade them down West Colfax in Denver, naked. Then leave them to rot in obscurity.

Third. Judas Pries on a pogo stick, people. You thought you could use a six y/o boy in a stunt like this, and the truth wouldn't come out? What are you, fucking retarded? Bill Cosby built an entire TV show around getting kids to say things their parents didn't want them to. It ain't hard.

Cancer Treatment in Canada Suck - Colour Me Shocked

So, there's a new Cancer Advocacy Coalition of Canada study out saying that access to chemotherapy drugs varies widely across the Deranged Dominion. Now, I know this can't be true, since we have single payer universal coverage, and our medical system is the bestest in the whole universe. Certainly better than eeeeevil "two tier, American style health care." At least that's what I read in the Red Star over Toronto. Therefore, treatment is equal, and first rate. The logic is inescapable. Shit.

Snark aside, what the fuck did you expect, geniuses? I blogged about Canadian tiered health care here, but the meat of it is that we have multi-tiered health care, with unequal access to care, based on geography and socio-economic conditions and connections. Why the fuck would cancer treatment be any different than simple access to a GP?

As to cancer treatment, this is the takeaway line:

Want an appointment with a specialist? 7 - 13 weeks. Need treatment? After getting to see the specialist, add another 6 - 16 weeks. Do the math, 3 to 7 months from your GP to specialist treatment. Geez I hope you don't have anything serious, like pancreatic cancer (median survival 3 - 6 months).

Those are averages. Canadian health care IS multi-tiered, and it IS waiting in line. Granted, I didn't mention waiting for new drugs to be approved...oh, wait, yes I did. So the reccomendations from the panel:

Establishment of a nationwide catastrophic drug strategy to resolve access inadequacies
Development and implementation of Canada-wide guidelines to speed up access
Increased research to identify subsets of patients who would best benefit from new therapies

Hospital deficit: $6.5 million
Deficit expressed as a percentage: 6.1%

Average Ontario per patient funding: $1009
Cambridge per patient funding: $730
Funding expressed as percentage of the average: 72.3%

So, McShithead, tell me again that the hospital budgetary shortfall is due to inefficiency. Just looking at those numbers indicates to me 2 things. First, that Cambridge has one of the most efficiently administered hospitals in the province. Hell, it should be a model for other hospitals, just imagine the level of care should they be given even 80% average funding. Second, you are a lying sack of shit. A boil on the body politic. A smarmy little creep who is playing politics with the lives of Cambridge residents.

You say there's no money, yet you've comitted 30 Billion dollars for health care upgrades. Why Canada Sucks, Part VI, Multiculturalism

Now, I've been meaning to have a go at multiculturalism for some time, but it took this Globe and Mail poll (thanks to Kathy Schaidle) to kick me into gear.

Now, first question, is multiculturalism something about Canada which sucks, or is it a cause of Canadian suckitude? Mostly the latter, I think. Let's explore.

Before the late, unlamented and never to be sufficiently cursed Pierre f'ing Elliot f'ing Trudeau set out on his one man mission to destroy this country, Canada was a unicultural country. Oh, sure, we payed lip service to being bilingual and bicultural, but let's be serious. On all the major issues of a given day, we pretty much ignored Quebec, and they pretty much ignored us.

WW1? Quebec objected, we went, and had to institute the draft to get Quebecers into uniform. WW2, ditto. Hell, the fascist himself reflected on it in his 1993 memoir with the money quote, "So there was a war on, tough." English Canada was all in on the fight to free Europe. Quebec, not so much. But we went, and dragged them along.

Then along came the French fucker and his cult of personality. So Canada lacked any great distinguishing culture. So we were neither Americans nor British, but, outside of geography, really couldn't say why. That was no goddamned reason to make it official govt policy that, since we had no culture, we'd have every culture.

Why does this matter? Because, dammit, although there may have been little to call Canadian "culture" what we had was the inheritance of the British Empire. A homogenous population, a unifying language, a common history and common assumptions. We had what the multi-culti fantasists dream of; a country where, by and large, differences can be talked away, and even if they cannot be resolved. There is, for example, no resolution between the pro- and anti-abortion crowds, or between the pro- and anti- capital punishment crowds. You fall in one camp or the other, you might even switch camps along the way, but one side or the other gets its wish. You hang Paul Bernardo, or you don't, there is no middle ground. Abortion is legal, or not, there is no middle ground. However, even though one side (and somehow, invariably, it seems to be the Liberal side) gets its way, you don't have riots in the streets.

This is, and I cannot stress this strongly enough, due to our British heritage. A trust society. Peaceful protest. Respect for the Law. Orderly transfer of power. We can make a deal and expect the terms to be fulfilled, without threat of force. We don't have revolutions because "our" people are on the outs. We do NOT shut down the Gardiner Expressway on Mother's Day just because something happened half a world away, and we're pissed off the govt didn't do anything about it.

Don't believe me? If you can't live in Europe, where would you choose to live? Not as a wealthy ex-pat living like a king, but as an immigrant. Pick a country, which has been colonized, and the more peaceful, stable and wealthy it is, the more likely it is to have been an English posession.

So, what did we do in Canada? Elected the late, unlamented and never to be sufficiently cursed Pierre f'ing Elliot f'ing Trudeau(if I should ever have the foul luck to find myself at his gravesite, there will be much pissing and dancing, oh, yes, there will be pissing and dancing galore). Yes, let us let in a flood of immigrants who share none of our heritage. Then, let us tell them that their culture is not just as good as ours, let us tell them it is superior, and that they should keep it. Then, 40 years later, let us wonder at what the hell happened to our country.

Our country is now 66% European descended, and 2% Amerindian. That leave 32% "other". But only 21% think multiculturalism is just peachy. Hmm, even a huge chunk of our immigrant population (minimum, 1/3 give or take) think it sucks. Add in a huge chunk of Liberal white guilt, and I would hazard a guess that most of our immigrant population think that multi-culti nonsense is just that, nonsense.

So why the fuck do we pursue it? Why doesn't that spineless jackass at 24 Sussex Dr. do something to end this expensive, divisive, dangerous, stupid policy? Ha HA, because of how multiculturalism makes Canada suck. It's like health care. Should our "conservative" government attempt the slightest action to slow the flushing of our country down the multi-culti shithole, the Liberals and the media (but I repeat myself) will go ape shit, and the "conservatives" will find themselves out of power again. And, because they're a pack of spineless pukes, holding on to power for its own sake is more important that using power gained to effect positive change.

And am I alone in finding it odd that a huge number of "new" Canadians object to multi-culti nonsense, yet can be relied on to vote Liberal? I mean, many of them came here to escape the kleptocrats in their own countries, so why do they vote for the kleptocrats here? I just don't fucking get it.

By the way, up there I did, indeed, call multiculturalism "dangerous." The vast majority of our immigrants live in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. And not out in the well policed, quiet, middle class or wealthy burbs, but in the diseased cores. Which of these crime ridden pissholes do you want to live in?

Asshole Gets Another Classic Novel Removed from Curriculum

I've been lacking inspiration lately, and posting has reflected it. Fortunately, even in the dog days of summer, eventually some stupid shit is bound to come along and kick me loose from my torpor. This is in honour of said stupid shit.

Said shit for brains hails from Brampton and, concerned about language in Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird, complained to the school board and had the book removed from the grade 10 curriculum.

When I started this blog, I seemed to be focusing on the "Human Rights" kangaroo kourts, and their efforts to ban speech that people might find offensive. Six months later, here we are again, and I shall proceed with my usual delicate touch.

Yo, fucknuts, what the hell do you think you're doing, banning TKaM? Judas Priest on a pogostick, what are you using for brains, three day old maggot shit? I'm going to try to let you in on a couple of secrets here.

First, the era and area about which Lee was writing were racist, so to capture the flavour of the times, racist language and characters need must be used. Are you so fucking stupid you don't get that?

Second, have you even read the goddamned book? The book itself is a lesson on racism, and the evils inherent therein. Do you not get that, moron? Are you so lost to reason and sanity that, in your world, the use of the word "nigger" in a book automatically puts it beyond the pale?

Guess what, asshole, you haven't done a good thing here. The book is a pulitzer prize winning classic, and all you've done is proven that I've got house plants with better reasoning faculties than you have.

Let me sum up, TKaM is a lesson in the evils of racism. In order to accurately give that lesson, racist language was required. You got that book pulled from the curriculum, preventing your child from (1) reading a great work of art and (2) discussing the lessons therein. You also have taught your child that puling, whinging titty babies can get what they want, if they prey on white guilt, and that wimps and pussies give in.

So what? We're a sovereign sort-of-nation, and if we choose to impose visas on Mexican touristas, that's our business. Don't like it? Well, Felipe, a hearty vete a la mierda. What are you gonna do, impose visas on us? Go ahead, who spends more tourist dollars, Canadians in Mexico, or Mexicans in Canada.

And, BTW, the reason for it is the number of Mexicans who come here as tourists and claim refugee status. Yes, our refugee system is broken beyond repair (the subject of another post), but, if Mexico were a half decent place to live, rather than yet another corrutp, 3rd world shithole, maybe your citizens wouldn't feel the need to cheat their way into Canada.

Why Canada Sucks, Part V, The Wimp Factor

I was going to subtitle part five, The Pussy Factor, but this is the intertubes, and putting "Pussy" in a blog post title is likely to bring in a surfing demographic which is slightly different from the one I'm aiming at here.

I got to thinking about what utter wimps Canadians are this weekend with the story of Kenneth Gladney, who received a beat down from a group of peace loving supporters of St. Hussein of the Holy Hopenchange. Seems that Mr. Gladney had the temerity to hand out "Don't Tread on Me" flags, to those who wanted one, in protest of President Obonehead's plan to destroy the best health care system in the world.

How did this get me to thinking about what a nation of pussies we are? President 0bama told his supporter to "get in their faces," redefined conservatism as terrorism, cozied up to thugs and dictators and set about destroying the America that was. On election night, his "community organizers" patrolled the city precincts to make sure none voted against him. He nationalized the banking industry with a casual "nice bank you have there, shame if something happened to it" attitude. His attitude toward debate with the opposition, "I won."

What was the American citizenry's response? The Tea Party movment. A movement that grew so large, so fast that it is scaring the ever loving shit out of pResident 0bama and his minions. Don't believe me? Believe their actions; accuse the Tea Partiers of astroturfing, exclude them from townhall meetings, arrest them, beat them and when that doesn't work, hold the meetings in secret. The protesters' response? Keep going back for more. You know, non-pussy like, the exact opposite of Canadians.

What about Canadians? We're pussies. The late, unlamented and never to be sufficiently cursed Pierre Fucking Eliot Fucking Trudeau took away capital punishment, replacing it with "life with no chance of parole for 25 years." About 7 picoseconds later some liberal numbnuts in a black robe turned that into, "life equals 25 years," so parole is after 8 1/3. So, in place of the noose, we have 8 years in the pokey. Even Paul fucking Bernardo will be getting parole hearings, starting in 2020 at the latest, and probably in 2010 under the "faint hope" clause. Excuse me, but what the fuck is he doing still partaking in the communal oxygen.

Our response? Even 20 years later, a huge majority of Canadians wanted a return of the noose. So were we out on the streets? Yeah, right. Were we electing a government that would accede to our wishes? Like the Mulroney "Conservatives," who held a "free vote" on it in 1987 (a vote in which all members were free to vote in accord with Mulroney's Catholic conscience). Are you fucking kidding me? We got; 15 years of "capital punishment is state sanctioned murder" propaganda (yes, so what, what is your fucking point) and a flood of immigrants from countries where the "justice system" is a fucking joke. So now the surveys see support for the noose floating between 48 and 52%, and we STILL have never had an honest debate on whether we should, as a nation, execute the scum of the earth.

Pick a hot button issue. Abortion, immigration, "same sex marriage." No matter how large the majority of Canadians on the "wrong" side of the issue, the govt does precisely as it pleases and the response is a few tut tuts, and a heated letter to the editor or two.

Organic Food, To Eat or Not to Eat

Today one of the local talkers was revisiting a British study which concluded that "organically grown" food is nutritionally no better than conventionally grown food. Approximately 3 femtoseconds after the news hit the airwaves the hippies' spin hit approximately 6 quadrillion rpm.

"But, but, but, it's not about the nutritional content, which is really higher, no matter what your studies say, it's really about saving Holy Mother Gaia. Pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, carbon footprint, sustainable living, blah, blah, blah."

As I often say, where to begin?

Since we're suffering through the coldest, wettest "summer" since, if memory serves, 1992, let's start with carbon footprint, shall we? And where do we begin with that? How about this, GLOBAL WARMING IS A CROCK OF SHIT, BONEHEADS. Don't believe me? Go here, or read this or just ponder the following:

In the 70's the scare mongers had us entering a new ice age, in the 90's and early 00's they switched to catastrophic warming, and when the data from the last decade came in, showing a decline in temperatures, they switched to "climate change." Not one computer model predicted a decade of cooling wiping out a century's warming, not one computer model can come up with today's temperatures from yesterday's data, hell, no weatherman will predict more than a week out, yet the Warm Mongers want us to just take their word that man is fucking up the climate. Piss on them.

Still, they want us to believe that organic farming is going to save the planet by reducing our carbon footprint. Now, since the planet is cooling, it's kind of hard to sell me on the whole planet warming up thing, but, for the sake of argument, let's say ManBearPig is really coming. So what?

This is Canada, with the four seasons of June, July, August and hockey. I should give a shit that the planet warms up a couple of degrees and cuts a month out of hockey season? Don't we have indoor rinks for just such an emergency?

Seriously, most of Canada is uninhabitable, and non-arable, because of the cold. Warmer weather means more arable land, and better crop yields. It also means a shorter, warmer winter with less energy needed to heat our homes? Hmm, more food, so food prices go down, less heating so energy costs go down, and fishing season gets longer. Where's the downside? Seriously. Where's the fucking downside. In fact, if CO2 really is warming up the planet, I think it is every Canadian's patriotic duty to get out there, buy a Hummer, and run it 24/7.

On to chemical fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides and fungicides. Who needs 'em? We do. Think crop yields per man hour. Who are the ultimate organic farmers around here? The Mennonites and the Hamish. Their yields are lower, and the farming is labour intensive. Why do you think that organic food costs so bloody much? More labour, less yield.

Oh, and on the topic of herbicides, how do you clear a field of weeds? Burn it. Holy Mother Gaia might die from all the carbon released. And it's not real good for soil retension, you know, vapourizing it.

And those pesticides? Aside from increasing crop yields, do you really want bugs in your dinner? I don't. Kill the little fuckers.

The fungicides? See above, swapping mold for bugs.

And about their "organic" fertilizer. Know where that comes from? The south bound end of a north bound animal. Know what comes out with it? Methane. Guess what is a 20 times more powerful a greenhouse gas than CO2. Go on, guess. Starts with "meth," ends with "ane."

Hey, I know, let's all go veggie, kill all the pigs, cows and horses (also known as "sources of organic fertilizer"), lower our crop yields even more, lose a bunch of weight, get sick, and then, when global cooling takes 'hold, we can all freeze and die. That'll help Holy Mother Gaia.

You want to buy organically grown food? Fine, go ahead, it's your money, and I'm not the guy who is going to tell you how to spend your hard earned dollars. But, since there are no real benefits, and a whole bunch of drawbacks to organic farming, I think I'll just sit back, and laugh at you. And spend the money I save on a nice, juicy, feedlot grown, finished with corn from standard farming , 16 oz steak.

Separation Anxiety

Well, the Mrs. is off to the big city for a spa day with her sister. This would not normally be of note, she's gone haring off to spend time with sis many a time. The difference, on this occasion, is that she left The Boy with Daddy.

The original intent was that she'd overnight with sis. So Daddy suggested that he'd take The Boy to visit Daddy's parents at their cottage. Hoo, boy, not a good idea. Separation anxiety reared it's ugly head. The plan changed to a day trip, with the potential for an overnight, provided Daddy sends regular email updates, as we pass each milestone...snacks, meals, naps etc., and provided that being away from The Boy does not give Mummy anxiety attacks.

I posted some snark about hippies (scroll down). I posted some cheesecake in Stacy's Bikinifest (scroll further). There hasn't been an idiotic comment on the wonders of Canadian health care in a couple of days, and the Tamils have gone quiet. I guess it's back to hockey.

The Leafs have traded for Wayne Primeau. Yay, the final piece in the puzzle, a 3rd line centre who will contribute upwards of 10 goals and 30 points. Plan the parade route.

Okay, okay, snark aside, they've unloaded one of their excess defensemen, Anton Stralman, for Primeau and a 2nd round pick. Primeau is a decent checker, and a big guy. So, regarding my last hockey post, in which I posited that, to make the playoffs, the Leafs need to cut the goals against by at least 50, picking up a big, competant, checking centre is a good move. They're weak down the middle, and weak on the shut down. This move should help.

Eighth place, eighth place, eighth place.

Recently I dropped a comment over at Cold Fury that I'd like to get to a Why Canada Sucks post on multiculturalism. Guess that one is going to have to wait, since the host of my local all news station, and his guest, were blatting on about health care, and some new study about how wonderfully wonderful, awesome, look a unicorn, Canajun health care is.

The guest is a doctor, and is proud to tell us that most Canadians are happy with their doctor. And that, five years after getting a doctor, most Canadians are still with that doctor. And they're happy with Cuban, err, Canajun health care. And when a caller mentioned the CNN add wherein a Canadian woman complains about Canuckistadian health care, said Dr. guest (or maybe it was the host) says that, well, they found the one dissatisfied patient.

Hoo, boy, as always, where to begin?

Okay, lets start with Dr. Bimbo, an impressive specimen of the Canadian affirmative action medical education system. Ahh, isn't it grand that 1/2 of all doctors graduate in the bottom half of the class? And that med school admissions are highly dependant on your skin colour and genitalia, ensuring that our doctors come not from the best candidates, but the best politically correct candidates? Hey, I'm a fair kinda guy, I like to give the benefit of the doubt. I'll blame her stupidity on her, not on having intelligence removed by the system.

Canadians, once they get a doctor, don't change doctors. Hmm, after waiting, potentially years, to get a physician, people are unwilling to leave and look for another? I can only imagine that is because of deep satisfaction with the doctor, not because they fear waiting years more for another doctor. Hey Dr. Dimwit, the patient rosters aren't static because the system is good, it's because the system sucks.

Oh, and they found the ONE dissatisfied patient to complain, did they? And most Canadians are happy with the system. Let's break that in half. Maybe this guy can find some other dissatisfied patients. And was it not in Quebec that some dissatisfied patient successfully sued, in our extreme Liberal Supreme Court, Quebec Health over it's waiting times?

Come to think of it, you can count ME as a dissatisfied patient. Why? Because I've been a patient in a better system. The American one. You know what would be an interesting survey? A survey of Canadians who have had treatment in a private system, such as the American HMO system, of their satisfaction with the Canadian system.

And we're "satisfied," are we? The survey Dr. Bimbo cites is composed primarily of people who have known 1 health care delivery method, Cubas. Oops, there I go again, Canada's. And there are those amongst the born-profoundly-deaf who object to cochlear implants giving hearing to the profoundly deaf. They've never heard Mozart, so they dismiss the ability to hear. That dismissal comes from ignorance, just as the approval of Canada Shitty Health Care comes from the subjects of the Deranged Dominion.

To paraphrase Bob and Doug MacKenzie, the difference between Canadian health care and American health care is like the difference between side bacon and back bacon...one's better, eh? And no, Virginia, the Canadian health care system is not better.

Hockey Odds and Ends

Some time ago I wondered if we can now dispense with the Marianne "The Passenger" Hossa myth. It seems the answer would be, sort of. Detroit didn't like him enough to piss 7+ mil away to keep him, in the hope of dragging him to a cup. So, he went to Chicago, where he took a 2 1/4 mil paycut. Sure, that was almost 30%, which means he's still overpaid by about 3 mil.

Yes, I've got a hair up my ass about this guy. Yes, I've had it since he hacked Bryan Berard's eye out of his head, protesting that it was just the follow through. Hey, asshole, you're responsible for your stick. Your stick took out a man's eye. Thus, you took out a man's eye. No, the fawning over him hasn't helped. No, being in the unfortunate position of being a Leafs fan also doesn't help, but I think I laid out my case against him pretty well in my last post on the subject.

At any rate, if you're paying north of 5 million a year for a forward, he'd better be the type of guy you can build a team around. Whatever Hossa may be, he ain't that.

Which brings me to Dany Heatly, another, whiny, overpaid prima donna. Yeah, Dany boy, you have a helluva one timer. So did Brett "The Golden Pissant" Hull. They tried to build the St. Louis offense around him. How'd that work out? It wasn't until he was just a cog in the machine, and not expected to be the driveshaft, that he (most unfortunately) won a cup. Heatly is making too much money for what he brings, and, like Hossa, his act is wearing thin.

Oh, yeah, back to Hossa. Seems the ownership of Chicago is really pleased with his acquisition. How long did it take them to fire Dale Tallon after he signed Hossa? I mean, yes sports is a game of "what have you done for me lately?" but, Tallon took the biggest joke in the league (next to the Leafs) from worst to the conference final in what, 3 seasons? But what did he do lately? Signed Marion "The Anchor" Hossa to a 5 year contract. And got fired. Harsh.

Now, the Leafs.

Shit.

(1) They have a backup goalie to challenge Vesa "The Sieve" Toskela.

(2) They've brought in decent blue liners so that the kid Schenn (a) doesn't have to try to do everything, and (b) learns his craft properly. With 9 on the roster they've even got trade bait.

(3) They brought in a legitimate heavy weight so that, again, Schenn doesn't have to try to do everything.

(4) They haven't pissed the draft picks away on short term fixes.

Judas Priest on a pogo stick. It's almost as if the management has a fucking clue how to run a hockey team. A nice change from John "Doofus" Ferguson "I'm proud of what I've accomplished" Jr.

Now, they finished 12th in the East, meaning to make the playoffs they hafta get ahead of 4 teams. Ahead of them were; Ottawa, Buffalo, Florida and Montreal. The only one close to a gimme is Florida. Ottawas still has a poison in the dressing room, and I don't think Montreal improved this off season. Buffalo? I don't know. How many can they move up? 1 to 3 spots, leaving them on the outside.

Who was there? The top spots aren't changing Boston, Pittsburgh, Washington and New Jersey are Likely going to be the top 4. Philly, Carolina and the Rangers round out the playoff teams. Are two of them going to fall 4 to 6 places? Carolina pretty much stood pat, Philly improved, and New York got chewed up by free agency. Maybe Carolina slips and the Rangers fall, but 4 - 6 places for both? I dunno. If the stars align just so, maybe they sneak into 8th.

Look at it another way, Toronto was 13 points out of 8th. Do the new defensemen, and the fire Burke lit under Toskela's ass equate to 7 more wins? Look at goals for/goals against. Toronto was tied for 5th in goals for, and dead last in goals against. In bolstering the defense, Burke is working the goals against. They cut out 50 goals against, they're in 8th place. That's a goal every other game. Can they do it with a brand new defense? Maybe.

Why Canada Sucks, Part IV, the Weather

God I hate the climate in this fucking country. Oh, sure, it could be worse, the year I spent in southern China was, weather wise, a sojourn through one of the inner rings of Hell. But still...

As the name at the end of the post implies, I live in Ontario. In fact, South Central Ontario, nicely nestled in amongst the Great Lakes. So it's always damp. Oh, sure, in the winter we call it snowy, and in the summer we call it muggy, but those are fancy words for, respectively, cold and damp, and hot and damp.

Have you ever met someone from Phoenix who tells you, "Sure its 110 degrees, but it's a DRY heat," as if that makes a difference? Well, guess what? It does. 5 years I lived in the Denver 'burbs and the only time my fuckered up joints ached was when I left the state. For those interested, the front range is pretty much desert. Sunny, warm and dry, beautifully dry.

Now we're in high summer, and the goddamned temperature can't climb into the mid 20's. Fer chrissake, warm up would you? If I have to suffer this frigging country, at least let me wear shorts in July. Global warming my frozen, aching hairy toes.

Gah, we're back to this farging topic. Sadly, we're probably going to be stuck here until Obonehead finishes with health care "reform."

So, while Mrs. Fulminandrew was getting dressed, the boy turned on the idiot box. The default channel was showing, I think, Canada AM, and I heard the moron commentator drag out that hoary old chestnut, "Canada spends half, as a percentage of GDP, on healthcare, with better outcomes, than the USA."

Where do we begin with that stinking pile? How about with defining "better outcomes."

Is it better for the people waiting 2 years for joint replacements? How many retirees die waiting for a new hip or knee? Was it a better outcome that they spend the last of their "golden years" wheelchair bound and in pain, while Canada saves a few bucks on their health care? On the other end, was it better to skip giving that sick, premie all the care possible? Yes, the kid died, and his parents were devastated, but we saved the health care system a few bucks. How many cancer patients are forced to forego a final 6 months with their loved ones because the new drugs are unavailable because they're too expensive? That a good outcome? How many critically ill patients die waiting for surgery? How many cancers metastasize in the 4 - 6 months between diagnosis and treatment? Let's define our fucking terms...

"Better outcome" = longer life expectancy. According to worldlifeexpectancy.com Canada beat the USA's 78.1 years with 81.2 years. Okay, the average life expectancy in Canada is 3 years longer than in the USA.

In compiling that statistic, did they take into account the following:

Murder rates. Most murder victims in the USA are young men invooved in criminal activity. That's gonna skew the life expectancy down.

Immigration. The USA has upwards of 20 million illegal aliens. Most of them are from Latin America, all of whose countries have lower life expectancies and poorer early life nutrition and health care than the USA. Couldn't find statistics on legal immigrants, but, generally, people move to a better places, so I'm willing to bet that the legal immigrants, generally, suffer the same nutrition and health care issues as the illegals. This will skew the life expectancy down.

Lifestyle. The USA is trumpeted as the fattest, unhealthiest country in the developed world. Okay, if that's so, then the obesity related health care issues (diabetes, heart disease, joint problems...) are going to cost the system more, per capita.

Military forces. The USA has the largest military in the developed world, and the most soldiers in combat, and all the health care issues associated with that. Did Mr. "Canada has better outcomes on less money" take into consideration combat medicine, prosthetics, post traumatic psychiatric treatment, etc.? Did he take into consideration the deaths of soldiers skewing the life expectancy down?

How about heroic measures both at birth and death? An extreme premature birth who dies, in most of the world will be counted as a stillbirth. In the USA, if a baby draws first breath, no matter if he dies within minutes, he is counted a live birth. Not only does this skew the life expectancy down, it shoots a hole in another hoary old chestnut, "The USA has the highest infant mortality in the developed world." Yeah, because they count ALL the babies born alive, not just the ones that make their shitty socialized medical systems look good.

At the other end of life, socialized medicine is killing the elderly. In the Netherlands, euthanasia is now at the doctor's discretion for both the very old, and for deformed babies. Great, don't spend money keeping people alive, kill them before they fuck up the statistics. I know, I know, we don't have that in Canada, not actively, we just don't treat the very, very sick. We put them on a waiting list and hope they die before they cost us an opportunity to turn our noses up at Uncle Sam.

These are just off the top of my head, I'm sure you can think of more. And that is just on the subject of "better outcomes." On to costs.

Canada has only 1 health care system, the govt provided one. The USA has 2, the govt provided one, and a parallel private one. Each gets about 1/2 the per capita spending. There being 2, you have a choice, go with the govt one, or pay for the private one. In the private one you have access to much better, and faster treatment. Why?

How about this; self interest. When the payer is in charge of your treatment, it is in his self interest to deny treatment, to save money (that would be Canada). When the payee is in charge of your treatment, it is in his interest to get you treated so he can, you know, get paid (that would be any private system). With the former, costs are kept down, at the expense of the quality of treatment. With the latter, costs tend to drive up, with the benefit of better quality of care.

Don't believe me? Then why, to take a recent example, does Canada not have enough neo natal care beds to treat our babies? Why do we have to send them to the USA? If we have such a wonderful fucking system, why does our system outsource its problem cases to the eeevil, 2 tier American system. In fact, if govt health care is so bloody wonderful, why do the rich, world wide, go to the USA for treatment? Cutting edge technologies? Rapidity of treatment? Availability? The patient and his doctor being in charge of course of treatment? All of the above?

Yes, the Americans spend a whole lot more on health care than we do. Good for them, and thank them very much, because if they stop doing so, the whole world loses its hospital of last resort.

Oh, and Mr. "Canada has better outcomes on less money?" Kindly fuck off and die.

I'm Back

Okay, as I'm sure my regular reader noticed, posting has been light for a while. First I was busy, then I was away, then I was back and catching up on the news. Now I'm ready to fulminate. Hell, I fired up two posts up yesterday.

Where was I? Cuba. Why? Mrs. Fulminandrew liked the price, and we had the time, and her cousin was just back singing the praises.

So, I've been to another third world pisshole. Hell, I've been to another third world, commie pisshole. For my entire life, I've been hearing people sing the praises of Castro's island paradise. Just this spring, one of my Sunday hockey buddies, after proclaiming "I'm not a commie, but" told me of the good communism did for Cuba, what with keeping out the American influence and all.

Before I light off, I'm going to say this...Taiwan vs China, S. Korea vs N. Korea, W. Germany vs E. Germany. Three comparisons between countries with one racial/cultural origin, divided by American influence on one side, and communism on the other. Three of them are relatively free, open, and wealthy places. Three of them ended up as third world, commie pissholes.

Communism did Cuba some good? Really? I spent a year living in poor, rural China. The conditions the Chinese peasant lives under are horrific. It is a life of soul crushing, mind numbing, back breaking stoop labour, without the most basic of rights and freedoms, and basically no hope of improvement. I can't speak to the labour conditions of the Cuban peasant, I wasn't there long enough to see, but... But their housing is as awful as, or worse than, the Chinese. There is no middle class and they're still using beasts of burden to pull taxis. Shit, even the Chinese have discovered the existence of internal combustion.

We passed a hospital and a medical campus. The vaunted Cuban health care system? Scary. I've seen factories that were cleaner. But, hey, at least the (female) doctors can earn a living, provided they supplement their incomes by turning tricks. Oh, wait, that's NOT a recommendation.

In fact, only two things recommend Cuba. First is the people. Like China, and Vietnam, and Indonesia, and... well, you get the idea, the Cubans are a wonderful people beset with a truly repulsive government. Second is the climate; the place should be a paradise. Instead it's a prison, 90 miles of choppy, shark infested waters from Miami, and still thousands risk death to get away. Poor in Florida beats the ever loving shit out of poor in Cuba.

And now Raul Castro is talking about revitalizing the block-snitch system. Nothing like another heavy dose of totalitarianism to revitalize the old failing economy. Hey, it worked for N Korea, right?

In sum, another trip to another commie pisshole later, Fulminandrew is not budging from his position that communism never did any good for anyone, except the commissars. Anyone trying to tell you different is blind, a fool, or sees himself as one of the commissars.

Why Canada Sucks, Part III - Health Care

I realized recently that my "Why Canada Sucks" series could be broken down by components; things about Canada that suck, and reasons why Canada sucks. Correlations, vs. causes. F'rinstance, our disgusting, fundamental, bred in the bone anti-Americanism is something about Canada that sucks. Multiculturalism is a reason why Canada sucks.

I could, I suppose, separate the two, but I'm not going to, as there's too much crpsspver. Take health care as an example. Socialized medicine is something about Canada that sucks. However, being the only "free" nation in the world that refuses to allow a private medical system has become so much a part of our national identity that it affects our politics. In so doing it moves out of "something about Canada that sucks" and into the realm of "a reason why Canada sucks."

So without further ado, Why Canada Sucks, Part III - Health Care

I've been meaning to have a go at our national disgrace for some time now. Having just brushed the edges of the only other totalitarian health care system in the western hemisphere was enough, on its own, to push me to get at this. However, via Darleen Click over at Protein Wisdom, we have one Michael Stickings squatting over the inter tubes and grunting out a particularly stinky one, and that kinda put me right over the top.

Short version, severe premies need critical neo-natal care. No beds in Canada (what a fucking surprise), so they get shipped off to Buffalo. Problem; the parents don't have passports, and the family's separation is the fault of, wait for it, the USA. Yes, the failure of the Canadian medical system to provide care is no party to this tragic separation, it was goddamn George W fucking Bush.

If that soulless chimp bastard, who stole the election by the way (in spite of winning how many Florida recounts? oh, yeah, all of them), hadn't changed the entry rules, with only 2 years notice, then this would never have happened. Oh, sure the parents could have gotten passports at any time in the last 2 years, but if we mention that, we take responsibility away from where it rightly rests, on George Bush. But I digress.

Did you type that particular nugget with a straight face? Guaranteed care up here? Guaranteed care up here? If they were fucking "guaranteed care up here" they'd be fucking getting care up here, numbnuts. Jeebus, does the word "guarantee" mean something different in your universe?

Folks, you read that number up there correctly. The 2008 Ontario budget calls for 96.2 billion in spending. Pull out the 8.9 B for interest, leaving 87.3 for programs, and 40.4 of that is for health care. Now, what does that 46% get you?

Guaranteed care? Yeah, sure, if you have connections, or money, or can get to an American hospital. If not care then, how about waiting lists? In 2008:

Want an appointment with a specialist? 7 - 13 weeks. Need treatment? After getting to see the specialist, add another 6 - 16 weeks. Do the math, 3 to 7 months from your GP to specialist treatment. Geez I hope you don't have anything serious, like pancreatic cancer (median survival 3 - 6 months). Do the math, folks, socialized medicine will kill you.

Access to a GP? That's a waiting list. Need emergency care? That's a waiting list. Need an MRI, you betcha that's a waiting list.

But the quality of care is so much better, right?

Can anyone out there tell me the name of the only industrialized country in the world to have a SARS outbreak? Anyone? Yes, Canada, stands proudly alone in that distinction. We might not have, if patient 1 had a doctor who had paid attention to WHO bulletins, and if patient 2, her son, hadn't been left, undiagnosed and untreated, on a gurney, in the Emergency at Scarborough Grace for 12 hours. How many sick people, you know, the kinds who go to the emerge, do you suppose were exposed in those 12 hours?

So, we have a lousy, overpriced system which delivers lousy care after long delays. That is the "what about it sucks." Now for the "why it makes Canada suck."

Canadians can be generally counted on for 3 things. Incredible, overwheening arrogance, disguised as modesty, rancid anti-americanism, and blind faith in our POS health care system. Michael Stickings' idiotic missive is a perfect example. He won't get into comparing the relative merits of the systems, he will just say that the one that guarantees care, and fails to provide it, is superior to the one that doesn't guarantee care, yet succeeds in providing it.

This, in a nutshell is Canada. We're better than Americans. Even when we are demonstrably inferior, we will simply assert our superiority, and move on. How, is the Canadian system superior? Everyone has equal access to a waiting list, unlike in the "Two tier, American style health care system." I swear, I will cock punch the next asshole to pull that line out of his ass. I said above that health care distorts our politics, and that is the money line for it.

When the Liberals need to bump their poll numbers during an election, you are 100% guaranteed to hear about the eeeeeevil conservatives and their hidden agenda to bring "two tier, American style health care" to Canada.

First, bullshit. Alberta has the most conservative govt in Canada, and they spend the most on their universal health care system, and don't have a parallel private system.

Second, bullshit. At the federal level, even though it's the right thing to do, even though our POS socialized medical system is quite literally killing us, the pussy "conservative" govt isn't going to touch the Canada Health Act with a ten foot pole. It's radioactive. If there was even a hint of a whiff of Harper doing the right thing on health care, the stupid fuckers who vote in this nation would hand him an electoral drubbing that would make Kim Campbell's comeuppance look mild.

Third, bullshit. We have multi-tier health care already anyway.

The bottom tier is for anyone outside a major health services providing centre. The north, the rural areas, and especially the reservations. Access to care truly sucks, and all the "guaranteed access" in the world ain't gonna change that.

The next tier up is for the ordinary riff raff who live in decent care areas, i.e. the cities. They might be lucky enough to have a GP, they can get to the emerge (where the wait could be 2 minutes, or 2 days), they can access the lovely 3 to 7 month waits for care.

The next tier up is for the connected. They might be professionals, they might be family of health care providers, they might be our ruling class in Ottawa or Queen's Park, but they're connected. If they need care, they get it, waiting lists be damned. Who out there is going to tell me that Premier McMoron, or Bobo the Clown Rae, or Jack O'lantern, champions all of our fascist health care system, would actually wait for care, if they or their families needed it?

The top tier is the wealthy. If they can't get care here, they go to the US and get it, and get reimbursed, or not, by their provincial providers.

Government health care is rationed health care. Follow. It is in the payers interest to slow down the provision of care. The patient might get better, or might die. In either case, no payment necessary. So, if govt is the payer, the govt rations care, to reduce the payout.

This is no different from private payers. It is also in their interest to slow down payment. Of course, if there is more than one payer, let a private insurer get a rep for refusing payment and it's out of business.

Who prescribes treatment? The doctor, AKA the payee. It is in the doctor's interest to get paid, so rapid treatment is in his interest. If he works in a system of multiple payers, competing for clients, rapid treatment ensues. So, in the USA, you go to your doctor, he sends you to a specialist and you get treated. Waiting times are measured in days, not months.

Don't believe that? Look at the health care options not covered under the Canada Health Act. Need acupuncture, massage therapy, physio therapy, dental work, chiropractic, etc.? There is a surplus of providers lining up to compete for your business. Only with the medical/hospital system is there a shortage. And only in the medical/hospital system is there a single payer.

Of course, this is reality. And we can't allow reality into the little fantasy world constructed by the soft fascists in charge of our health care.

C'mon, yeah, she was the pinup girl when I was a kid. And, yeah, she was a Charlie's Angel. But, what was the last noteworthy thing she did in her chosen career?

If you want to discuss something important because of these deaths, how about this:

FF was 62, and died of cancer. MJ was 50 and died of a heart attack. 62, 50, this is way too young to die.

First, cancer. Cancers are many and varied, and we've made incredible progress in defeating them, but there is still a long haul ahead. 62 is too young to die. Rich, famous, beautiful, poor, anonymous, ugly. It doesn't matter. 62 is too young to die.

Next, heart attack. I don't know MJ's medical background, but I do know this; dancer's tend to be very fit people. They don't suffer heart attacks. I'm just typing out of my ass here, (like that's news) but I can't help but think that there is an external factor involved.

Let's face it, the man was a mess. All those surgeries, the attempts to remain a little boy forever. We know he had no childhood to speak of, and I think therein lies the problem. 50 is too young to die, especially if the seeds of that death were sown, in childhood, by an overbearing prick of a celebrity father. God DAMN it, love your kids. Shelter them. Protect them. And if anyone tries to harm them, tear the sonuvabitch apart. Don't exploit them, and if they do achieve fame, do whatever you can to keep them sane.

Okay, yesterday I watched my local news and got the answer to a question I posed in my last post. The question, "Can we now dispense with the myth of the usefulness of Marianne "The Passenger" Hossa? Short answer, no.

Seems the chatter is about whether the Wings can afford to ink him to a long term deal. If not, who's going to pony up 7 - 8 mil per season for however long. Hmm, let's recap.

Ottawa; scored a bunch of regular season goals, carved Bryan Berard's eye out of his face, disappeared in the playoffs. "The Scalpel" gets traded to Atlanta.

Atlanta; scored a bunch of regular season goals, disappeared in their one (IIRC) playoff appearance. Quick get him to Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh: made no impression on me whatsoever. But, to be fair, that may simply be because he was on a team with Crosby, Malkin and Staal. A lightweight like Hossa is simply going to vanish against that sort of competition. Anyway, did he do anything in that playoff year? Other than lose the final and jump ship to Detroit, where the talent is so deep they could afford to drag "Deadweight" Hossa to the cup.

Last season, signed in Detroit as a free agent. Undistinguished regular season, although, again, to be fair, there is so much real talent on that team that he might have had a decent showing and just faded into the shadows. Much like he did in the playoffs. Scored in one game of each of the first three series.

Look, you just can't give a guy 10 - 15% of your salary cap if he's going to disappear when it counts. Unless it is your intent just to get to the playoffs, not caring if you win anything, for the extra revenue.

On Mike Babcock:

Okay, Babcock has been named to be Canada's coach at the Olympics. Cool, you've got a proven winner with a ton of experience behind the bench. I just got one, tiny little dissent to voice...wouldn't it have been better to have a proven winner with a ton of experience coaching Canadian players behind the bench. I mean, he'd be a fine choice for Team Sweden, but Canada?

Being (1) cheap, (2) not really liking much to be found on TV and (3) generally having better things to do, I don't have cable. So I either stream the playoffs in a crappy little pop up window, or if I happen to be at my in-laws, I catch the game there.

Since I don't like the quality of late round games, I don't put much effort into seeing them, so it was only with game 4 that I got the pleasant surprise of no Bob Cole in the final.

At long last, the CBC has someone competent to call the games.

Now if only the Penguins would be good enough to win game 5...

Tamils Just Love to Miss an Opportunity

Now they're in Ottawa protesting the usual. Seems they want intervention in the Ceylonian refugee camps. Umm, by whom? Are they asking us, Canada, to invade? Sorry, we're Canadian "soft-power" pussies, and what few combat effective troops we have are busy in Afghanistan.

Not asking us to invade? Want the UN involved? First, why do you want the Blue Helmet brigade raping your 8 year olds? Second, do you honestly think Canada can stir the U(seless) N(itwits) into action?

Mr Obama Goes to Cairo

Okay, so President Oboner and his teleprompter band went to Cairo. Stop me if you've heard this one.

According to Christine "Sticky Thongs" Amanpour, it was the most important foreign relations speech of his administration. Judas Priest on a pogo stick, he's only been president for 4 months, and besides that, how many "most important...speeches" is the teleprompter kid going to make? It seems that, since he got the nomination, every speech he made is the most important speech in the history of oratory. Would that Shakespeare got press like this. If he had, maybe he'd be recalled as one of the great wordsmiths of all time. Oh, wait...

Anyway, once again the topic of Obimbo and his great oratorical skill comes up. This time he got standing o's (and not just from Chris Matthews, and those were standing Big O's, anyway) and amazed the audience with his honesty and sincerity.

Okay, two things there; his great speaking skills, and his honesty and sincerity.

First, every time someone tells me what a great speaker he is, or what a great speech he made, I say the same thing, "Quote him" or "Qutoe something from it."

I'm Canadian, and I can give you chunks of Lincoln, Kennedy (the president, not the Chappaquiddick lifeguard), Reagan. You know, actual great orators. I can even recall pieces of Roosevelt (the 2nd, commie, one, not the first, fascist one) Nixon, Carter and BJ Clinton; not great orators, but notorious in their own rights.

But Puh-resident Uh-bama? His speeches are like candy floss. Pretty, fluffy, totally lacking substance and gone the moment you bite into them. And delivered to you by a second rate carnival barker. The man is not a great orator. Read five words...pause...turn to other teleprompter...read five words...pause...lather, rinse, repeat. I say again, NOT. A. GREAT. ORATOR. Just catch him without his telebinkie.

As to wowing the audience? He went to Cairo and pissed on the USA. Something about the power of "soft power." Which there ain't no such thing, otherwise Canada, where the idiotic phrase either originated, or was perfected under Chretien's Foreign Affairs Minister (whose name escapes me) would be a major world player, rather than a whiny little punk hiding behind big jock brother. But that's a different fulmination...hmm I sense a "Why Canada Sucks" posting topic.

Where was I? Oh, yeah, Obama goes to the Muslim world, pisses on the US, and Bush, and a captive audience applauds his "honesty and sincerity." Shit, do these jounalistic hacks actually believe this garbage?

Honest? He's a corrupt Chicago ward heeler who oozed his way to the top spot in the machine. He got elected by getting his opponents kicked off the ballot, and running either unnopposed, or against the second or third stringer, brought in late in the game. When he finally hit the big time and had an actual opponent, the MSM picked his opponent for him, ran interference the whole way, under electoral conditions that, on their own, should have guaranteed a Democrat victory, and STILL he only managed 52% of the vote.

Sincere? Okay, I'll give you that. He probably is, unlike Clinton, a truly great liar. Clinton is not a great liar. He is an habitual liar, but not a great one. Great liars are believed, and no one, especially not BJ himself, believed him. OTOH, Obummer, IS a great liar, although I don't know why.

It might be that he believes his own lies. He could simply better at faking sincerity. Or, through a combination of MSM propaganda and audience self-hypnosis, his bullshit is taken at face value. Or some combination of the above. Or, hell, it could be something completely else.

We're what, 140 days into this administration? It's gonna be a loooonnnggg 4 years.

CDN Nuclear Secrets Left at CTV Studio

Okay, so Lisa Raitt, Minister of Natural Resources, leaves a confidential binder at a CTV studio.

Thoughts. First, fire the idiot. The "Conservatives" have a minority government, and can't close ranks if the opposition decides to bring them down. They also must live up to a much higher standard than the Liberals. Okay, that's not fair, so I'll rephrase. The "Conservatives," unlike the Liberals, must live up to a standard.

A Liberal prime minister could be caught on an open mike, talking about how much he loves pissing off the Americans (I'm looking at you, Jeanny Cretin), a Liberal member (Carolyn Parrish) could say, to reporters, "Damn Americans...I hate those bastards," Liberals could steal millions of taxpayer dollars (Adscam) and it would be no big deal. A "Conservative" leaves a confidential, not secret, not top secret, merely confidential, document? Scandal, SCANDAL, SCANDAL. Fire her now, save us the faux hysterics, on both sides.

Second. The press, having a new "Conservative" "scandal" to dwell on, is not going to ask the following question. If the documents are so secret, and critical to national security, and important, and Scandal, SCANDAL, SCANDAL, why is it not a bad thing that CTV kept them for over a week, instead of calling the dept of natural resources to return them?

Third. Aren't the "Conservatives" supposed to be the grown ups? The serious ones, capable of governing in these difficult times? This comes out a year after Maxime Bernier, former Foreign Minister, left secret (yes, secret, as in important) documents at his girlfriend's apartment. Are there any adults in this country willing to enter politics? Hey, don't look at me...pot, meet the fulminating kettle.

Okay, Raitt offered to resign and Harper refused her resignation, taking the resignation of one of her subordinates, instead. What I said above about adults, and standards? Double down on that. Chretien or Trudeau could get away with scapegoating a subordinate. Even Mulroney, due to massive majorities, could. Stevie, you've got a minority, and a "Conservative" one, at that. Behave like an adult, and apply standards.

And now the talking heads on the new are calling it Raitt Gate or something. I'm with Kathy Schaidle on this one. No more (fill in the blank)-Gates. How about we call this Chalkaquiddick?

And STILL no one is asking why CTV didn't call the DNR and tell them about the forgotten documents.

Hockey Stuff

Passing thoughts on the state of hockey today.

I previously posted on the "Let the players decide the game" whine of the losing team's fans. Today in the Sun, Bruce Garrioch made a comment to the effect that the result of the game was aided by the referees doing something a little different this time; their jobs, i.e. calling penalties. Why is it that we never hear the "Let the players decide the game" whine when the refs really are deciding the game by allowing an horrendously dirty team like the Wings get away with all but murder?

And why is it that the League noisily punishes coaches who criticize the referees, but never the referees for fucking up? Does the League think it to be good customer relations to punish the critic, but not the fuckup? Think the Maple Leaf whiners would still be snivelling about Frazier's non-call on Gretzky if the League had visibly sanctioned him for single handedly turning a series?

Who am I kidding. The League could have fired Frazier, tarred and feathered him, run him out of town on a rail, keelhauled him, and, worst of all, taken away his hair gel, and the Maplepucks would still be crying about it 16 years later.

I'm hardly the first to note this, but what the fuck is up with playoffs stretching well into June, and, if the League had had it's way (the original schedule was to start on the 6th), possibly well past the halfway point? I don't know about y'all, but I haven't watched a game since the second round. One; it's not exactly hockey weather out there, two; I've always found the quality of play drops off precipitously in the third round, and three; it's hard enough to stomach reading about the Dirty Wings victories in the paper. Actually watching them is too much for my blood pressure.

A couple of weeks ago, the 3% owner of the Coyotes started putting together a purchase bid, with the intent to move the team to Las Vegas. I think that one died, but, I've been reading for years that Gary Buttman wants the next two NHL cities to be Vegas and Kansas City. Balsillie offers to buy the Coyotes and move them to Hamilton. Buttman doesn't want a team in Hamilton, Buttman hates Balsillie with a burning passion, and out of absolutely nowhere, someone makes noises about scooping Balsillie and moving the team to the very place where Buttman wants it. Coincidence I'm sure.

I went to McMaster. Hamilton sucks. Seriously. Big, wet, dangly donkey balls. Having said that, it'd still be a much better place for hockey than Phoenix. You want to talk about not-hockey-weather? One March I saw the Coyotes play the Devils; it was 100 degrees. Seriously. Not. Hockey. Weather. And, after losing 300 million, I think we can say the Jets took a serious step down in terms of hockey locations.

Playoffs are almost done, so the dog days approach. I wonder who the Toronto media will have moving to the Leafs before all is said and done. And I wonder how many of the players reported to be on the move there will actually be moving there.

So, we're past another Victoria Day weekend. A holiday weekend commemorating the birth of thAT Queen of England who reigned when we took our first baby steps away from England, on the road to nationhood, a trip that took a mere 114 years, but that's another story. What is it about the long weekend that sets me off on another "Why Canada Sucks?" Long weekends, or, more specifically, the fact that we have too many of them.

Once upon a time, holidays celebrated something. Queen Victoria's Birthday. Our newly founded Dominion. The new year. Christ's birthday. Something.

Then something changed. Once upon that time, Canadians were an industrious people, we had to be, to carve a life, and a living out of a pretty hostile place. Then something happened, and we became a pack of useless layabouts.

Not content with celebrating real things, we started making shit up. So, in addition to our real holidays; New Years, Victoria Day, Dominion Day, Remembrance Day, Christmas, and Boxing Day, we've added; Labour Day (hey, Commies deserve a holiday, too), "Civic Holiday (because it's just too long to go from July until September without a long weekend) and "Family Day" (because, well, Premier McShithead is approximately as bright as the lily my mother gave me for Easter). And, somewhere in the middle of all that, we removed Remembrance Day, and via the late, unlamented and never to be sufficiently cursed Pierre Eliot fucking Traitordeau, renamed Dominion Day to Canada Day.

That's right, Canada is such a ridiculous place that Ontario now has an official holiday called "Family Day," commemorating Dalton McMoron's pandering to the lazy demographic, we don't celebrate the armistice of WW I, and the sacrifice of over 100 000 dead, and many more wounded, servicemen, and we actually RENAMED OUR NATIONAL HOLIDAY.

The signs of encroaching middle age are many and varied. Today we discuss exercise and entertainment.

In my youth, I used to run, and run, and run. I could do 5 miles in 27 to 30 minutes, without really pushing, and be breathing normally 30 seconds after I finished. Nowadays, I walk, and the concept of stacking 6 minute miles end to end to end is completely foreign. Hell, the very concept of breaking a 6 minute mile is foreign.

And, when I was getting ready to go, I said to myself, "Ooh, don't forget your Walkman." Walkman... WALKMAN? Jeebus, old man, when was the last time you used a Walkman (a real one, you know, with cassette tapes, 'cause that's what flashed into my head as I asked the question), 1995? And yesterday, when I was going to bed, I thought to myself, "Don't forget to turn of the VCR." VCR? Dude, that's DVD player.

Why Canada Sucks, Part 1

I stated in my posts on the Tamils that Canada sucks. There are far too many people out there who don't think this to be true, so I am beginning a series dedicated to the suckitude that is the Great White North.

When one has a subject that is so rich, so long, wide and deep, so huge in scope, such as why Canada sucks, one is faced with an enormous problem; where do I begin?. Canada has so much suckitude in its politics, law, history, culture, geography, weather, attitudes... Where do I begin? How do I attack the subject matter? I think as a series of, "This just pissed me off, so I'm going use that lens to tell you why Canada sucks" essays.

Since I started with the Tamils, I will launch with the notion of equality under the law. Short version, we ain't got it. What we've got is a law for the majority, and a whole 'nother law for the minorities. Oddly, the standard historical relationship is reversed; in Canada, legal-wise, the majority gets the shit end of the stick.

Yesterday I posed a question; if a group of white supremicists tried blockading Yonge St., or blocking traffic for little stroll down the Gardiner, would Premier McSpineless congratulate them on their 'peaceful, legal' protest, or call in the cops? I'm thinking the latter.

OTOH, if an ethnic minority flouts the law, the cops are there to ensure the lawbreakers safety. What is the difference? White supremicists are a dying breed of sad little shits, held in contempt by pretty much everyone who isn't one of them. Oh, and they're white. Tamils, marching under the banned flag, of a banned terrorist organization, which illegally raises money in Tamil communities, aren't, so they get a pass.

It's not just large groups on public display, and the politicians' fear of bad press. The rot goes deeper. So concerned are we that somewhere, some white person is getting an even break that we created a whole paralel, quasi-legal judicial system. Why do I say quasi-legal? Because it isn't investigated by police, prosecuted by the crown, or presided over by actual judges. Everyone in the chain is a political appointee. What are these bodies? The "Human Rights" Commissions.

A beast that finds conservative white people to prosecute. Don't believe me? Find a case where a leftist, non-white got prosecuted. The closest I can come is the curious case of Sunera Thobani (former head of NAC, UBC women's studies professor), who, in the aftermath of 9-11, went on one of her typical screech fests, that time about what bloodthirsty bastards Americans are.

Someone complained about her speech so she prepared her in depth, highly technical legal defense, "I'm a leftwing, brown woman, you can't prosecute me for a hate crime." I paraphrase. Whatever her defense, the investigation stopped dead. Mark Steyn quoted an Imam, and was persecuted by these clowns, for the Imam's quoted words. Again, Mark Steyn; white, conservative, man, prosecuted for words not his own. Thobani; brown, socialist, woman. Investigated, given a pass on her own far more vicious words.

Even better, the CHRC has a 100% conviction rate. Don't believe me? Google "chrc conviction rate." The only cases where the defendants weren't convicted were, such as with Levant and Steyn, when those cases were dropped. The defendants had too much time, money, too big a soap box, and too big a flashlight. When they shone that flashlight under the rock, the cockroaches scurried back to the shadows.

Even worse, it's not just the quasi-judicial kangaroo kourts; the real law is biased. Sometime in the late 80's or early 90's, the geniuses in Ottawa changed the rape law so that a woman could not give consent, were she, for example, drunk. Stands to reason, then, that the man could not be required to gain consent were he also drunk, right? Bwahahahahahaha. If a man and a woman, both equally drunk, had what they believed to be consensual sex, under a literal reading of the law, they did not. It was rape. Period. I believe that one got blown up when some POS in the maritimes successfully his used extreme drunkeness as a defense for a violent rape. It's possible the numbnut crowd in Ottawa fixed the law after that. I don't know.

If they did, maybe they fixed the infanticide law, at the same time. Daddy kills baby, it's a crime of murder. Mommy kills baby, the crown can go for infanticide, for a much lower sentence. Same crime, but the woman gets off easier.

Remember Paul Bernardo? Pre-Karla Homolka he was a serial rapist. Enter Karla and he moved on to kidnapping, torture, and murder. He's serving life in a solitary confinement box (fucker got off light). She's walking the streets with a sociology degree paid for by the taxpayer. Was he truly that much more culpable? Was she just a battered woman innocent, dragged down by the devil. Reread the order above. Alone, "just" a rapist. With the woman, kidnapping, rape, murder.

Equality under the law in the demented dominion is a fairy tale. I would not, in this day and age, want to be a straight, white, conservative man in Canada. You belong to no protected group, so you get the full force of the law, while the protected groups get lighter treatment, or an outright pass. Which is one reason why CANADA SUCKS.

Tamils Take Another Opportunity to Miss an Opportunity

I was going to post this as an update to the previous post, but that one is a tad long, as is this one, so I'm putting it on its own.

Not satisfied with shutting down the Gardiner on Sunday, yesterday the Tamils shut down parts of Yonge St. and University Ave.

Okay, "ladies" and "gentlemen," I offered you some advice yesterday on winning the hearts and minds of Canadians. I suggested; shutting down the Gardiner, on Mother's Day, bad idea. I suggested you try not to fuck up Canada as badly as the pest hole you came from. I'm going to try again.

Shutting down a major egress route from downtown Toronto, during rush hour, is not winning you any friends. Seriously. If you don't believe me, read the comments at the CBC. I repeat, if you haven't got the mush brains who think the CBC is actually a news source, then you're really screwing up the PR war.

Now there is talk of you taking over a 400 series highway. Yes, let's shut down a major economic artery, at the height of a recession, to do...what? Again, what, exactly do you expect to accomplish? Even Toronto Mayor David "Dipshit" Miller has told you that the only place you might possibly affect policy is at the national level, and that would be in Ottawa. So again, what, exactly do you expect to accomplish? Or is getting the notoriously placid Canadian public pissed with you your goal? If so, why?

Oh and Premier McSpineless? For all their protests are "peaceful and legal," umm, no, they're not. They're shutting down major highways, and that is NOT legal. If you disagree, a thought experiment. A group of Neo-Nazi skinheads jump the guardrail and shut down the Gardiner. Do you stutter platitudes about peaceful protest, or do you call in the cops? If the latter, then it's a very short trip down logic lane to; the Tamil protests might be peaceful, but they sure aren't legal. Call the fucking cops, you clod.

I close with the same admonition as before. Your country is fucked. That is why you left it. This country is not fucked. If you wish to effect change in your country, find an appropriate venue, one which might actually do some good (personally, I would suggest go the fuck back and try this shit in Colombo), but stop fucking with THIS country. Oh, and lose the Tigers' flags. Seriously, they're really bad for your image.

So, the Tamils shut down the Gardiner for hours on Mother's Day in order to...what?

Would someone please be so kind as to tell me what the FUCK shutting down a major artery, in a major city, on one of the most sentimental days of the year, is going to do for their cause?

Is it going to garner them the sympathy and support of the Canadian people? Via Cathy Shaidle, go to the CBC and find out, nah, not so much. Ya gotta figure, if the comments run so hard against you at the CBC, you're doing something wrong.

Is it going to get the Canadian government to do something about the situation in Ceylon? If so, what? I see a few commenters at the offering up brainwaves like getting the UN involved. What, has the Blue Helmet brigade run out of African children to abuse? I mean, do you want Ceylonese 10 year olds trading their bodies for chocolate bars? Or that we should harshly condemn the Ceylonese govt. Yeah, that'll work. And if not, there's always a letter of concern. Or sanctions? Umm, just how much do we trade with them?

Again I ask, did they actually think that blocking a limited access, multi-lane expressway, tying up traffic for hours, using babies in strollers as human shields to keep the police back, would garner them sympathy outside of the mush brained left? Sympathy they already have, by default, due to the mush brained left's inherent mental defects? My post title refers to a comment I heard, once upon a time, about the "Palestinians," that they never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity. I think we have another group with that affliction.

Does anybody else remember, back in the mid 80's when a boatload of Tamils crashed ashore in the maritimes and demanded refugee status? My favourite story was about the guy who got in a cab in Halifax, if memory serves, and asked to be taken to Toronto. Judging by Sunday's "parade," he made it. Canadians were actually, briefly, irritated about our assinine refugee system. Which that jackass Mulroney promptly did nothing to fix.

What, exactly, did they get? More pictures of "ordinary Tamils" marching under the flag of a terrorist organization. Granted, it's a terrorist organization whose bag men Paul Martin liked to meet with, but a terrorist organization none the less. And, hey, they did get a promise from the Liberals to bring it up in parliament.

Hey, that's what they wanted, to make sure the Liberals were still the party of terrorists. Mission accomplished.

Yo, Tamils, if I might be so bold, you left your 3rd world pest hole of a country for a reason; because it sucks. The suckitude of Canada is far less severe than that of Ceylon, and I would very much like it to stay that way. To that end, I offer the following choice: (1) Behave yourself in accordance with Canadian customs, manners, traditions and laws or (2) GO THE FUCK BACK. A Review of Ezra Levant's "Shakedown"

To lead off, a quick and somewhat overdue (I read the book 2 months ago) review of Ezra Levant’s recently published “Shakedown,” which chronicles his adventures with the Canadian, Alberta, and BC so called Human Rights Commissions.

It’s an excellent book, well written, engaging; a thoroughly enjoyable read. Get it, read it, and DO SOMETHING.

Reading the book was something of a trip down memory lane for me. I’ve long been a reader of George Jonas, who has been against the HRCs as long as I can remember, probably right from the start (I’m a bit young to be able to say for sure, he came to Canada before I was born, and the HRCs are older than I). In fact, it was through his writings that I was originally persuaded of their inherent wrongness. Time has borne him out, although the HRCs’ evil has only, in the last year, started to become apparent to Canadians as a whole.

For this story, we travel back to the mid/late nineties. The place was Alberta, and the issue was a man who sued his employer for wrongful termination. He was openly gay, and his employer was a Christian private school, which terminated him for violating the terms of his employment contract. Said contract included a morals clause, which he violated by living his chosen lifestyle.

IIRC he lied to get his job, then flaunted his violations of the contract in order to get fired, so he could haul them into court, force them to take him back, and thus make a point. I don’t even remember if it was a “Human Rights” kangaroo court. What I do remember is that he won (point made, you're an asshole), and that I was royally pissed off at this abrogation of the schools property and freedom of assembly rights. At that time, I did not realize that Canadians have no property rights, Pierre F’ing Trudeau having chosen to leave them out of the constitution. But that’s not the point. The point is the conversation this led to.

I had a great friend at University, Steve. He and I saw eye to eye on a great many things, though not all. One thing I thought we agreed on was freedom of speech. We’d never actually broached the subject, but hell, we’d discussed just about everything under the sun and, agree or disagree, we were great pals. As he’d recently hung out his shingle as a lawyer, in Detroit, it never occurred to me that he’d believe in the hammer of state being an appropriate tool for regulating speech. Back then I simply didn’t understand the power of tribalism. Not being afflicted with that particular disease, I doubt I really do, even today.

We were chatting about this, that and the other one evening, and the aforementioned case came up. Somewhere along the way we got into whether a man may be punished for speaking unpopular opinions, such as Holocaust denial (there’d recently been a couple of high profile cases on the subject). I said no effing way. He responded with, “What gives you the right to hate me?”

Huh? Oh, yeah, Steve is Jewish. Barely (the first meal his family fed me was Polish sausages). But, seriously, wtf? I have never heard from him since, and this is a man who told me of a friend of his who had said he’d make a nice lamp. Steve is from a badly depleted line of Polish Jews, so, yes the Holocaust is a mightily sensitive subject, and I never could, would or did make a crack like that one. I simply think you have the right to air stupid opinions.

What gives me the right to hate him? That would be natural law. What gives him the right to use the hammer of state to try to prevent it? Anti-Semites, hell bigots of any sort, are nasty little shits who should be exposed, held up to public ridicule, and shunned. But this is not the purview of government; it is the purview of polite society. Only when they exit the arena of words and enter the arena of violence do you bring in the hammer of state.

What is the connection? Read the book. Or go to Mr. Levant’s website. The HRC’s are in large measure a creation of what he calls Canada’s “Official Jews,” created specifically to punish Neo-Nazi’s and other holocaust deniers. Such as Syed Soharwardy, the complainant who tortured Mr. Levant, by way of the HRCs for almost three years.

Who is Mr. Soharwardy? A Calgary based, Hamas and Hezbollah supporting, holocaust denying, radical Imam who took offense at Mr. Levant’s republication of the Jyllands Posten caricatures of Mohammed. You know, those cartoons whose initial publication sparked off globe spanning riots, which resulted in over 200 deaths.

To recap: The HRCs were created, in part due to pressure from Canadian Jewry, to be used to punish Jew hating holocaust deniers. Mr. Levant, a Jew was dragged through these kangaroo courts for 900 days by a Jew hating holocaust denier, whom Mr. Levant offended.

Can we get rid of these fucking commissions now?

And Steve, NOW do you see the danger of putting government in charge of policing thought?

The latest flap over Carrie Prejean, this time topless photos (real ones, by the definition I gave previously, i.e. nipple can be seen), along with Donald Trump's defense of her, and the resignation of Shanna Moakler (co-director of the Miss California USA pageant) propped up the non-controversy.

Okay, in order.

Real topless photos of a pageant girl. Yawn. But, but, but, she's a Christian; hypocrisy, Hypocrisy, HYPOCRISY. I repeat myself here, but, if liberals didn't encourage the behaviour in question, the hypocrisy charge might have a little more merit. But it's a sin, and SHE'S A CHRISTER. So what? Christians don't claim infallibility (that is reserved for liberals). As I'm not a Christian, that is all I will say on the subject. It's their club, their rules, go to them for more if you like.

Mr. Trump's defense of her pretty much amounted to (paraphrasing rather loosely), "It's the president's position too, so get over yourselves." Why aren't they beating up on Obama for opposing "gay marriage?" Oh, right, the doctrine of liberal infallibility. And, come to think of it, when Obama poses topless the press get tingles up their thighs, and they forget all but their love for the Won, and their desire to see the object of their desires succeed.

Shanna Moakler is upset about the topless photos and the "gay marriage" thing. Moakler posed for Playboy; hypocrisy, Hypocrisy, HYPOCRISY. Oh, wait, she's also a supporter of "gay marriage" and, thus, a good liberal. Doctrine of infallibility again. To the "gay marriage" thing, piss off Miss Moakler. You're 34 years old and can't accept someone holding an opinion different from yours? Grow up.

And finally we get to "gay marriage" itself. I suppose the quotes around it give away my position, i.e. against.

Now, Bill Quick a writer for whom I have profound respect, and who provides my essential daily read, is in unequivocal support. Further, he considers the vast majority of opposition to it to be simple anti-homosexual bigotry. On the second point, we are in complete agreement. On the first, not so much.

First, a couple of notes. Did you catch the bit above where I said I'm not a Christian? My opposition is informed by precisely zero holy texts. As to sexuality, I truly don't give a flying f@#$ at a rolling doughnut what you do with your private parts, providing all parties consent, and are fit to give consent (I'm looking at you, NAMBLA).

However, sorry lefties, words have meanings. Meanings such as Marriage:

the social institution under which a man and woman establish their decision to live as husband and wife by legal commitments, religious ceremonies, etc.

See, that's the meaning of the word. Oh, not everywhere, I know. Just the entire white world, and more importantly, the English speaking world. You know, the places where we live and are having this discussion. And it's meant that for a long farking time; the word is about 800 years old, which is, coincidentally, the age of the English language, and words follow ideas. That is, the concept, marriage, is older than the word as defined. The very fact we have to put a modifier, "gay, in front of "marriage" should be a tip off that something is afoot.

Yes, words and even institutions change. But they evolve, they do not change because one morning some pushy asshole awoke with a bug up his ass and decided they needed a new meaning.

Ahh, institutions. He moved off of words. Well, I will return to that, because redefining marriage is more than simply changing the meaning of a word. But first a bit more on words. Take "gay" for example. Even now, the first 4 definitions of the word are:

1.	having or showing a merry, lively mood: gay spirits; gay music.

2.	bright or showy: gay colors; gay ornaments.

3.	given to or abounding in social or other pleasures: a gay social season.

4.	licentious; dissipated; wanton: The baron is a gay old rogue with an eye for the ladies.

The fifth is homosexual, yet the above 4 are not the first thing most of us think of when we hear the word, are they? Same with "queer" and, unless we're discussing the Royal Family, "queen." These words have completely changed their primary meanings. How?

Well, it wasn't by judicial fiat, and it wasn't by plebiscite. A group of people simply determined to change the words, and used them in the new way, and eventually the new meaning was adopted by all. My parents' generation mourns the loss of "gay." Me? Meh, I don't care. The word has a new meaning, and we all know what it means when we say it. Did you catch that? It has a new meaning, and we all know what it means when we say it. That is important. We're not in Wonderland, where a word means what we want it to mean when we mean it that way.

Now, the institution. The left seeks not only to redefine the word, but to remake the institution. Look, marriage is changing. I know that, any idiot can see it, and it doesn't matter whether we like it or not, it's changing, and doing so on its own. As the institution changes, so will the meaning of the word. There will always be those who will never accept the changes (see "gay" above). So what?

It comes to this. Marriage has a meaning, right now. That meaning has changed in places, and is changing here. It will happen, or not, at its own pace, as it has in Europe, and some of the more liberal American jurisdictions. Win the hearts and minds, and the legalities will follow. Legalities first, is cart before the horse, and the hearts and minds won't follow.

And while we're at it, lefties, would you be so kind as to stop using the word "invest" in place of "spend?" That one is really annoying.

"Let the Players Decide the Game"

Well, it's May, the playoffs continue, and having a go at Bobo the Clown Cole felt so good, I'm going to return to hockey. This time to those cranial nullities, whose preferred team drew a bucketload of penalties, who whinge on about letting the players decide the game. Jeebus but that pisses me off. Take, for instance, last night's Pens/Caps game, in which, I read, the Caps took 6 penalties in a row. Sure as sunrise in the east, some fan made the traditional whine on the CBC site. Let's look at it.

Games have rules. Games have arbiters of the rules. In hockey, on the ice, these arbiters are called linesmen and referees. Since the Linesmen's job is a lot more, umm, black and white, than the referees, and since their mistakes do not generally turn games and series, they take a lot less flak than the refs. Let's let them be.

Included in the referee's job is the task of monitoring play to ensure that play is generally kept within the bounds of the rules. If a player steps outside the bounds, the referee assesses a penalty of varying degrees of severity. Now, for the slow students in the back, we're going to go over that again, it's important.

The referee monitors play to ensure that play is generally kept within the bounds of the rules. He cannot do so perfectly, for there are 12 players on the ice. These 12 players are generally quite large, and in motion, many of them quite fast motion.

In addition, the ref generally concentrates on what is happening with the puck. The puck carrier is the most frequently fowled player, and one of the ref's duties is to determine if a goal has been scored and, if so, if it was legal. Thus, the referee will miss things, and he has a partner. Even with two, they are men, and fallible, and cannot see everything that occurs.

Much of that is an aside. The basic thing to concentrate on here, and I can't stress enough how important it is, is this; the referee monitors play to ensure that play is generally kept within the bounds of the rules.

If the ref determines a player has stepped outside the bounds of the rules, he assesses a penalty.

Did you get the order there? Player breaks rules, ref gives penalty. Again, for the slow students, (1) PLAYER BREAKS RULES, (2) REF GIVES PENALTY. The first is a pre-condition of the second. Or are you saying the refs were just making shit up?

How, exactly, is it, if the ref is doing his job by assessing a penalty, that he, rather than the players, is determining the outcome of the game? If the player didn't break the fucking rules, he wouldn't be going to the sin bin. So, Washington, in taking 6 penalties in a row, determined the outcome by...wait for it...taking 6 penalties in a row.

If you think the calls were chintzy, well, were the same calls being made against both teams? If not, complain to the league, you're right, the ref tilted the ice. But...I've listened to a lot of post game bitch sessions in which both sides thought the refs were calling bullshit on their team, while the other side got away with murder. Hell, I see this in me.

When watching a game I personally do not see how anything that does not put a Detroit Red Wing in the hospital can be considered a penalty. Yet, for some unfathomable reason, there are those out there who consider the Ducks to be the dirtier team. It's possible, while watching those dirty fucks in red and white, my personal blinding, searing, red hot hatred for the Wings is overcoming my general dislike of the Ducks, colouring my perceptions and overpowering my sense of justice and fair play. But I digress.

If the calls were chintzy and made against both teams, then your beef isn't with the refs, it's with the league. Specifically with the Board of Governors (i.e. the owners) who set the standards for rules enforcement, and Colin Campbell, the league's chief disciplinarian, who oversees the enforcement.

Perez Hilton is an Asshole

Now, this whole thing got started because a lefty asked a righty a loaded question. Was it intended that way? Did Hilton know Prejean was a Christian and lay a trap? Or did he expect the Californian contestant to agree with his position, and lob her a softball? I neither know, nor care.

If the former, he is revealed as an asshole. Of course, that's not exactly a scoop, is it. OTOH, if the latter, it raises an interesting question; was he tilting the field to his preferred candidate? And if this is the case, is this whole flap just his way of distracting people from that? If so, he is revealed as an asshole. Of course, that's still not exactly a scoop.

So, what do we have? Ultimately, we have a dickhead, wholly unqualified to judge a beauty pageant (see previous post), asking a question that was bound to raise controversy one way or the other, generating a lovely little controversy and getting himself a bunch of press, and website hits. Hmm. Could it be that it was just a rules 4 5 play?

I don't know. All I'm pretty sure about, from both this controversy, and having visited Hilton's site (no link, you want to see it, go look for yourself, and don't forget your brain bleach), is the accuracy of my post head.

The question, so far unmentioned, which I have been consciously avoiding, "Do you think "gay" marriage should be legal?" I will weigh in, but not just yet.

Standards of Beauty

In a previous post I introduced a set of questions. The one I will address here is, based upon my choice of title, standards of beauty.

Ladies, a question. Why did you allow gay men to become the arbiters of feminine beauty? Seriously, I want to know. Letting Penis Hilton judge a beauty pageant is like me asking Rosie O'Doughnuts for advice on how to be a real hunk, unobtainable as that goal may be. Now, I can't speak for all men, but I'm pretty sure the average guy isn't seeking out the nearest dyke for advice on how to look good for his lady. If he were, Sears Roebuck would see one hell of a run on plaid shirts and coveralls, and the barber's would be limited to mullets. And, I suspect, there would be a lot of cold and lonely nights. Women, on the other hand...

Okay, there are three major fora in which standards of beauty are set; fashion, show business, and pageants. All three areas are pretty much the purview of gays; they design the clothes, they do the makeup, take the pictures, they publish the magazines, they judge the results, and the women in these areas reflect it. What, exactly, would you expect a gay man to decide the ideal woman to be? Slim, muscular, small butt/hips, definitely not too curvy, but for those icky breeders, better add some breasts. I know, how about a teenaged boy with a rack? Models, actresses and beauty contestants...teenaged boys with teats.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know I'm making assumptions about what gay men find attractive, based on a fairly limited experience pool (in fact, mostly I'm reverse engineering). Yeah, yeah, yeah, sure there are exceptions in Hollywood (although, I can't actually think of one), but they are exceptions, and there aren't a whole lot of curves in the modeling world, are there? And it seems the beauty contestants need to get rubberized to have curves, so I stand by my point. Oh, and as to fake boobs, I'm with Stacy McCain, and opposed to Velociman on this one. Big or small, real looks better.

Ladies, before I hear any more whining about society's horrendous standards of beauty, consider who sets them, and consider who lets the deciders decide. All the men I know like their women to have curves, and don't expect those curves to be surgically created, or enhanced.

Carrie Prejean "Nude" Photos

Okay. I wasn't going to go anywhere near the latest in the Carrie Prejean saga because, well, I didn't care enough to bother. Then the "topless" photo "scandal" broke. Now it's out there, and I feel the need to vent.

First, if she's topless, but her back is turned, and her arm covers all but about 10% of her breast, does it really count as topless? I have a pretty simple definition of topless; if I can't see nipple, it don't count.

Second, since the woman is a beauty pageant alumnus, seriously, how much more exposed can she be now, than she already was? Seriously, is this, racier than this?

Third, why is it that behaviour the left actively encourages, is scandalous when engaged in by a member of the right? Right here in my "beloved" homeland, some lefty bint ran around Guelph topless, for a week, trying to get arrested, in order to test the constitutionality of the law which made women's toplessness indecent. Eventually she was, she did, and the law was struck down, and the left celebrated this as a victory for "women't rights." Now they're upset about 10% of Carrie Prejean's right breast? Riiiiight.

I know, it's about the hypocrisy. Again, riiiiight. Ted "the Lifeguard" Kennedy, champion of women's rights, kills Mary Jo Kopechne, no hypocrisy there, just 300 more years in the Senate, but let a beauty queen expose 10% of her right breast? Burn the witch.

Fourth, although she didn't win the pageant, she is now one of the most famous women in America. Let's see, beautiful? Check. Famous? Check. Rich? Not yet, but if you don't think she will be shortly, I'd better get a tip jar installed so you can deposit the down payment on a bridge I've got for sale.

Crapola. And it's all I'm going to say about it. It does, however, give rise to other issues, namely, standards of beauty, "gay marriage" and the ongoing rape of language by people who can't win an argument on its merits. But those will be covered in follow up posts.

Bob Cole REALLY should retire

Last night I watched part of the Pittsburgh/Washington hockey game. Good game; fast, exciting, hard hitting, everything a hockey game ought to be. Even the refereeing was decent. The game even had the added bonus of my utter lack of emotional attachment to either team. Since I really didn't have a dog in the hunt, I didn't much care about the outcome, and could just sit back and enjoy the game. Except for Bob friggin' Cole.

Now, before I go on a tear, I will say this in his defense. He's not the worst hockey play by play guy I've ever heard. That particular honour goes to Paul Romanuk, a play by play guy so incredibly awful that a bar slut I knew, once upon a time, who knew absolutely nothing about hockey, upon listening to him for about 3 minutes, commented on what an idiot he was.

So, having established my belief that Cole is not the absolute worst there ever was, allow me to proceed.

Set aside from the nerve grating nasal whine he uses for a voice, and set aside the encroaching senility, which led him to state, 10 years ago, that Bobby Hull scored the cup winner (Bobby Hull left the NHL in 1972, it was his son Brett who didn't score the non-goal that decided the 1999 cup).

Instead, consider the job of play by play man. It is, as I understand it, to describe the action on the ice. At his side is the colour commentator, whose job, as I understand it, is to fill in air time with asides, tangential to the action, but for the entertainment of the audience. To, you know, colour the experience.

The play by play man's job is not:

To tell us that Washington is looking to go up 2 games to 0, or to tell us Pittsburgh is looking for a split. Bob, I think we can take it as a given that both teams want to win the frigging game. They are highly proud, highly paid professionals, and it is, after all, the playoffs, numbnuts.

To tell us that there are 4 minutes remaining. And that the score is 4 to 2. Now, Bobo, I know you've been calling games for the CBC since the late Jurassic. In that time, I'm pretty sure someone has made you aware of the fact that the CBC puts a banner across the top of the screen giving the team names, the score, the time remaining, and, if there is one, remaining penalty time. Come to think of it, that banner, whether above or below the action, is pretty standard for all sports. Since that is written right there in bold, STOP FRIGGING TELLING US.

To tell us that the players are changing. Look, dummy, a shift change is only germaine to the action if it affects the play. Telling us that a player 150' from the action is getting off the ice is not a detail we need to know.

To tell us what you think is about to happen. Every time, for example, you tell us that so and so is going to clear the puck, when he fails to do so and you need to correct yourself, it makes you sound like a bloody fool, so stop doing it.

To torture the language. For example, Bob, clearing is an act of removal. You can clear away, clear out, clear off, etc. And you could even apply any of these to certain hockey situations. You cannot, however, clear in. Semantically it doesn't work, and in hockey terms, it is incoherent. So and so cleared the puck in? Seriously? You think that statement has logical content? Arrgh.

Thank heaven the CBC has Jim Hughson to do the games I actually care about. I don't know about y'all, but I sure would be interested to know what ol' Bobo the senile play by play man has on the powers that be at the CBC.

Oh, dear.

You know, it was a whole lot easier writing when I lived in a lovely cloud of blissful ignorance, a happy little fantasy world in which no one was paying any attention to me. Now I know differently.

Will this affect my writing? I hope not. I try to write as if I have an audience, even when I don't believe I have one.

Will this affect my output? I expect so. My first few weeks had some very sparse periods. I wrote, not when inspiration hit, but when time and inspiration colluded to get me to typing. Now I think I'll have to be working a little harder at it.

To be honest, I haven't paid much attention to the Liberals, since we don't really need them any more, what with the governing Conservatives general refusal to behave like "conservatives." In fact, so disgusted was I with, primarily, massive deficit financing and, secondarily, the absolute refusal to repeal the thought crimes clause of the Human Rights legislation that I figured to sit out the next election. As the saying goes, why vote for a Liberal light, false conservative, when you can have the real thing? Since I am constitutionally incapable of voting Liberal, what with my silly beliefs about liberty and such, I was just going to take a pass. Then...

Then I saw excerpts from Dion's and Ignatieff's speeches. I can't really comment on what Dion was saying, because, well, I have no frigging clue what he was saying. Is he coherent in French? 'Cause he sure ain't coherent in English. But that's not important right now. Or ever. I mean, seriously, it's Stephane Dion I'm talking about.

As to Ignatieff. Now they begin rebuilding what he calls the single most important institution in Canadian life. Excuse me, wtf? Seriously, WTF'ing F? The Liberal Party is the single most important institution in Canadian life? Jayzuz, arrogant much, Mr. Ignatieff?

Earth Frickin Day

How did I celebrate earth frickin' day? I didn't.

I've hated earth day since the hippies in my high school class started annoying me about it. As a natural born contrarian, I found myself suspicious of anything which was that heavily hyped by the Hollywood half-wit brigade. That was many moons ago, before technology and the repeal of the American "Fairness Doctrine" allowed those of us not on the lunatic left a voice in the mass media, and my instincts turned out to be right on the money.

Short version, one group of hippies wanted to create a new holiday on the first day of spring. Another group of hippies hijacked the idea and dropped it on Lenin's birthday. Whoopee, let's use the birthday of the founder of one of man's most murderous, anti-human empires, to celebrate the murderous, anti-human agenda of the neo-Malthusian left.

Earth Frickin' Hour

Okay, so I'm a couple of days late with my "What did you do for Earth hour" post. Sue me.

What did I want to do? I wanted to turn on every light in the house, put a turkey in the oven, maybe fire a roast into the barbecue. Then take out the little red toy for some completely pointless driving. Sure, it's Japanese, supercharged and gets pretty good mileage, but that's not the point, the point was to needlessly burn gas.

Yes, that was what I wanted to do. The missus, OTOH, wanted to go to yoga. Yoga by candle light, in fact. You'll never guess whose Earth Hour plans got realized.

So, there we were, off to yoga. "Okay," thinks I, "at least I'll get in a decent work out" (the only yoga I do is hot yoga, and, if you've never tried it, take my word for it, it's a stiff workout). Ha, not gonna happen, Andrew, because you forgot to plan for the hippies. God I hate hippies. Where's Eric Cartman when you need him? He would have had a field day with this.

Just imagine it...Earth Hour yoga, by candle light. But that's not all, they had a drum circle. Dammit, Cartman, where were you, this was a hippie target rich environment. Oh, and to ice the cake, the frickin' heat was turned off.

Now, I don't want to go off on a yoga rant, this being my Earth hour rant, but what, precisely, is the point of having a hot yoga class if it's not, you know, hot? Especially when it's not real yoga anyway. I went for a workout and got an hour of somewhat warm, hippified nonsense with a drum circle.

But at least we were saving the planet from global warming, right? Well, no. Leave aside the fact that glue ball wormening ranks with Piltdown man and the Tasaday "stone age tribe" of Mindanao in the catalogue of scientific cons. No. That's not fair, the Piltdown and Tasaday hoaxes never had the potential to destroy possessed by glow-bullshit warming. It's a hoax more on the level of "Silent Spring" and the banning of DDT, now closing in on 100 million dead. Yes, let's destroy the western economy and return to days of yore, a simpler, happier time when men worked themselves to death by 40, women died of childbirth complications in their 20's and children died from easily preventable, easily treatable diseases.

But I digress. I was talking about the utter uselessness of Earth Hour.

I live in Ontario. By turning off the lights, assuming everyone buys in and does so, we save, approximately, .01% of our power usage for the year. Power which is 44% nuclear, 32% hydro and 24% fossil fuel (source). So, 24% of .01% of 40% (Ontario's percentage of Canada, based on population) of 2% (Canada's share of worldwide CO2 production). That's a savings of about .0000002%. Maximum. Woo hoo. I sure feel good about myself now, don't you? But then again, that's really the point, isn't it?

So, as it was to be an ongoing photo essay of my time there, it died on the vine.

That was several years ago, and after I returned to the west, I became once again a passive consumer of the blogosphere; commenting occasionally, but mostly lurking. However, in the last few months a couple of bloggers, whose output I greatly admired, retired or dramatically scaled back on their work. A couple of others changed focus from the political to the personal.

I suppose, then, that the immediate cause is that I wish to pick up the torch. I don't purport to be able to fill the void these men left, but perhaps I can toss a pebble or two into it. Which brings me to the ultimate cause. I like to write. I don't know that I'm particularly good at it, but I do enjoy it, and will endeavour to use this blog to hone those skills I have.

What will this blog be? I don't know. At the beginning it will be whatever strikes my fancy. Perhaps that is all it will ever be. Let's get it going and find out.
